Auto Gesture and battery usage

Trying to please the old aged eyes here. Couple of questions if I may?

1. Does the auto gesture put a significant drain on the battery?
2. What is the difference between auto gesture in "watch mode" and "during activity" settings?
3. If you need good light to see well, what settings do you find work for you?

I haven't found auto gesture to affect battery life noticeably. With auto gesture on, the watch in watch mode (not doing a GPS based sport) and with 24/7 OHR on, I'm seeing about 6-7% battery drain per day. Pretty good, in my opinion.

"Watch mode" means when you are not doing an activity like "run or "bike." You can set auto gesture independently for watch and activity modes. When on, it works the same way in both.

I also need a bit of help to read the watch. I use auto gesture and backlight with button press after sunset. I find black on white background more legible than the opposite and use that for activities but use black background for the watch face because I think it looks better with the dark grey fenix 5.
  • Actually, I find auto gesture to be a good battery saver. It only comes on when I turn my wrist and goes off as soon as I turn my wrist back to vertical.

Given the battery life of the f5 is so good, I often tend to leave backlight on (no timeout) during 30-60 min activities. Although for multi hour hikes and bike rides and general watch mode, I have the backlight at 8 seconds.
