Basecamp

Only had my 5X a couple of days so still learning and constantly looking on this forum.

Is it possible to create a track on Basecamp and download it on to the 5X? If it is would someone kindly explain how it is done.

Many thanks in advance.

    1. Open Basecamp
    2. Connect your device (this unlocks the maps if you don't have a separate licence)
    3. Create your course using the toolbar options
    4. Send to device using right click menu or drag and drop
    5. Disconnect your phone, wait for it to start back up
    6. Stare in wonder at your new course that somehow lacks any elevation data at all despite this apparently being a feature, the 5X shipping with topo maps, and it showing fine in Basecamp with said maps
    7. Instead, look around to see if someone else has done the course you want and has an available recording that you can put on the watch instead, just like you might have done with the F3

Many thanks for the advice, will give it a try this evening. I read somewhere and it mentioned having to load the track into a file on the 5X called New Files. However this file is hidden and it went on to explain how to unhide it at that point I was totally confused 🙀
  • Searching81 Many thanks

WOW surprised at how easy that was. Had read previous posts and was hesitant on purchasing the 5X as it appeared to be difficult to use Basecamp, which I love and use it all the time. The only thing was how long it took to load the maps from the 5X. I use the Garmin GPS64s for the longer more challenging events and it loads the maps very quickly.

Will try out the map/navigation tomorrow now I have a track on it.

You only need to do that map loading process the first time.

If you stumble upon any way of getting elevation data for courses made in Basecamp onto the watch, please post back to the forum, I do a lot of hiking and often can't find GPS files from others of the tracks I do, so it was one of the features I was most looking forward to on the F5X.
