Most accurate non-Stryd footpod?

So by it seems pretty well established that compared to the 935 the fenix 5X is unfortunately not great in the pace/distance accuracy department. I love the mapping and looks of the 5X, but on its own it simply is not good enough for my marathon training. By contrast, the 935 (without a footpod) will probably be good enough for my training. I know several people on these forums have the Stryd, but I can't justify the $400 difference between the 935 without a footpod and the 5X with a Stryd. So that leads me to this question: What is the best non-Stryd footpod?

I know Fellrnr includes some pods in his GPS Accuracy Chart. He includes the Milestone, but that doesn't sync to a 5X, as far as I can tell. Is the Garmin Footpod the best cheap, non-Stryd option? Does anyone have a sense of how big the difference in accuracy is between the Stryd and the Garmin footpod?

Thanks, your future developments look promising. That is great to hear!

I am new to running and don't train at different paces for the time being as I just try to extend the duration of my runs. So I am not sure my data would help.

However, I guess that if you update your data field to record distance, speed and other information you may need, even if not in the most useful format, many users will send you their fit files for your analysis.

I will keep an eye on your future developments and if you need data from users, just let me know what you need.

Hi Cloggy, I tried to send you this message in private but I am not sure it worked.

I was wondering, do you think it's possible to create a data field linked to an external OHR sensor and which would record the data in the FIT file during a Pool Swim?

This is one of the main shortfall of the Fenix series to me. You can record HR while swimming only with a chest strap HR, which many people do not like to wear.

I am quite happy with the data I have from my Mio Fuse but the data can be only displayed on my F5X and not recorded. It is apparently because the data in pool is not coded by time but by pool length. Any idea if this is true and if there could be a workaround?
  • You could try this for HR during swimming:

    Cool! I'll try that!
  • Btw, I was able to add my milestone pod to my watch (Forerunner 935) this evening... Maybe the 4.10 update fixed something as it didn;t work with the 4.02 beta? Or I was just lucky tonight.

Anyway, now I actually need to try it on a run but that'll have to wait till the weekend I guess ;)

Happy to hear that it finally connected for you! The recent firmware update to the milestone seemed to improve its accuracy/responsiveness. I am seeing pretty accurate and consistent pace numbers through all ranges (from easy runs to intervals). Much better than using pace from GPS and easily worth the $20-25.
  • Hi,to those using the Milestone Pod witha Garmin 935 or F5 - maybe this is a silly question but does any of the data generated get written into the FIT file and can be viewed in Garmin Connect? Or is it just viewable in the Milestone app?
Also any further thoughts on this vs the Garmin footpod?
    Thanks...
