Training Status Unproductive!

Anyone else stuck an unproductive training status?
Been like it for the last 5 days, I'm still training as usual. Over the last four weeks it's gone through maintaing, productive and peaking. But now it seems stuck. I'm not really clear on what drives that value anyway...?
  • Extracted from the manual below (http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/fenix5/EN-US/GUID-6F81BF5B-B49A-4506-95E2-0F4A04D8B319.html). The term 'Unproductive' has such negative connotations, I'm not sure it fits the description for it below. I would have thought "No Improvement", "Not Improving" or "Plateau" might not hit you in the face as hard as "Unproductive" does; it's just words from a watch at the end of the day (sticks and stones....).

Training status shows you how your training affects your fitness level and performance. Your training status is based on changes to your training load and VO2 max. over an extended time period. You can use you your training status to help plan future training and continue improving your fitness level.

    No status
The device needs one or two weeks of training history, including activities with VO2 max. results from running or cycling, to determine your training status.

    Detraining
Detraining occurs when you are training much less than usual for a week or more, and it is affecting your fitness level. You can try increasing your training load to see improvement.

    Recovery
Your lighter training load is allowing your body to recover, which is essential during extended periods of hard training. You can return to a higher training load when you feel ready.

    Maintaining
Your current training load is enough to maintain your fitness level. To see improvement, try adding more variety to your workouts or increasing your training volume.

    Productive
Your current training load is moving your fitness level and performance in the right direction. It is important to plan recovery periods into your training to maintain your fitness level.

    Peaking
Peaking means that you are in ideal race condition. Your recently reduced training load is allowing your body to recover and fully compensate for earlier training. You should plan ahead, since this peak state can only be maintained for a short time.

    Overreaching
Your training load is very high and counterproductive. Your body needs a rest. You should give yourself time to recover by adding lighter training to your schedule.

    Unproductive
Your training load is at a good level, but your fitness is decreasing. Your body may be struggling to recover, so you should pay attention to your overall health including stress, nutrition, and rest.
  • I just woke up to find my training status at No Status ?

My Training Load is at Red 670. Not sure how this works ? I have ridden over 55 miles in the last 5 days and according to my recovery, I was to only do light activities , which I have, and now I have a No Status on my Training Status ? This makes no sense ..

Does anyone have an explanation for this ? What am I supposed to do , recover or blast through more workouts ? This is new, before It would show that I would have Recovery or Maintaining Status. No Status just doesn't sound correct. What do you guy's think?
  • Wow, I never really looked at this feature from the F5, but wow is it dead on for me (unfortunately).
Mine currently says Unproductive; Been doing my normal training this week, and have been feeling really sluggish and struggled with each workout. I was going to swim today on my normal off day, but seeing this I will indeed keep today as a rest day.
  • This is definitely new, I'm glad it's not just me. I am still feeling pain from my last ride, I know I need recovery still. It would be nice to see Recovery Status on my expensive little Fenix 5..

Put your chest strap on, edit the "app" settings for your favorite type of exercise (bike, run, etc), add a new data page with two fields: aerobic training effect, and anaerobic training effect. Exercise until you get an aerobic TE of 3.0 or higher. When you stop, (I predict) the watch will have you in a productive status.

This part seems to work pretty well for me.
  • All the fitness metric data on the Fenix 5 is provided by Firstbeat. Just click on the various features at this link https://www.firstbeat.com/en/consumer-products/features/ to get a better feel for what's what and how it works; if you want to dig further then look for the white papers section on the Firstbeat website, where you will find some extremely technical explanations for the way things work. https://www.firstbeat.com/en/science-and-physiology/white-papers-and-publications/

Aerob 3.5 training doesn't change nonproductive status

Same problem here. Aerob 3.5 training https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1714525818 doesn't change from noproductive to productive

Mine went unproductive in the last week. I felt so dejected. This thing is brutal. Then I worked out and got back to productive.

I don't know how it works but it's clearly pushing me. I've been struggling looking at the training load (I'm on the low end of optimal) trying to figure out how to be more "productive" according to this watch. Obviously I'm also not sure the watch is perfect but in theory it's looking at data from our HR right and telling us what's happening.

I've also taken it's TE's into account and try to get them higher. I feel like I'm working my butt off and it's putting me at a TE of 3 if I'm lucky. I'm not sure if I need to get a better HR Max estimate or what.

I will say this watch is pushing me. My wife jokes how I listen to the watch.
  • Unproductive can also be a result of being tired and unrested. I hadn't had a day off in 2 weeks and was unproductive for the last 5 days. I had a day off and voila, I'm back to productive.
