Do you use it for payments? What services I can use with this tag?

No these tags cant be used for paymants.
They have many other uses though that you can easily find by just googling "nfc tag uses".

There are some banks that provide contactless payment devices in the form of thin and lightweight wristbands. Maybe one of these can be "hacked" into a fenix 5 strap but i dont have any to test.
  • thx bro.
not possible to do payments this way? sad... :(
wich are your usage cases for this tags on your f5?
  • Hi everyone. Just bought my first Garmin Fenix 5S. So I'm new to the tribe. I have read through all of the various posts on 3rd Party Bands and I have a plan!

There seems to be two issues:

    1) The Quick Fit mechanism is sometimes plastic which is weak.
    2) The strap clasp's may use a spring pin rather than a screw in one, which creates another weak point

So, if anyone has bought a 3rd party band and they are happy with the Quick Fit mechanism (preferably being metal), could you please post here, saying where you bought it. Then I will buy a couple for my 'experiment'.

Once I have these bands, I will be ordering some of these: https://bit.ly/2OhfZqF These are screw-in buckles. They screw in from one side. Then to extra sure, I will use a dab of this: https://bit.ly/2AIXPKG which is an extra strong thread locker, to make sure that it won't come loose during exercise.

Hopefully this is a plan and I will report back here.
  • 'Plastic which is weak'

Hi, I don't know where you get your info from but I bought 3 plastic quick release bands on Ali a year ago and they're perfect. Cheap, in one piece and no damage whatsoever.

Mainly from this thread and other online reviews. But, if you have some great bands, could you post on here where you got them from or a link to the Ali page?

    Cheers

Looking at the link to your buckles I don’t think this plan will be worth your time. The perceived issue (although I don’t believe there is one) with the pins is that they are thinner and more flimsy than the torx rod that comes on the standard Fenix buckles. The pins on the buckle you link to don’t look any thicker than a normal buckle pin so would still be susceptible to bending.

For what its worth, I haven’t worn the official Garmin band for a long time now, ever since I bought some 3rd party bands off Amazon. I bought 3 silicone ones and a metal one and I cannot fault any of them. Yes, the quick fit fastening is plastic (I thought the genuine Garmin was too but don’t have it here to check) and yes, there is a standard buckle pin rather than the torx rod, but I’ve been wearing them day and night, working, running, swimming and generally just living in them and they are brilliant.

I paid a little more than the cheapest offering on Amazon to get the black buckles as I prefer the look to the silver with my slate grey watch. I change straps regularly and haven’t noticed any deterioration in the strength of quick fit fastenings or buckles. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone wanting to switch things up a bit, for a reasonable price.

Heres the the link to the silicone ones I have but they are 22mm for the Fenix 5 and I’m not sure if they do 20mm versions for the 5s:
