Burned calories

Hello all.

I am posting here in the idea that i will find an explanation about this :

in the morning i was doing some cardio(44 minutes) and i've burned 478 calories.I've used HRM Run and the watch did not stayed on my wrist.

Now i have 856 active calories burned. My job is in the front of a pc so i am not moving to much, only when i go to fill my glass with water, go to the toilet and when i have launch break.I did climb stairs, like 14 floors.

Here is the cardio session :

Everything you do which involves some kind of activity will count as active calories. Your 44 min cardio accounts for 478 of the 856. The rest is "fill my glass with water, go to the toilet and when i have launch break.I did climb stairs, like 14 floors."

It is impossible to evaluate if your numbers are correct and one can discuss the accuracy of the measurements until your face turn blue but they don't seem completely off the mark.

The idea is that i've burned almost the same amount of calories without doing hard work like i did in the morning with cardio session. You can see that i have higher heart rate. That's why i am asking.I know that i am burning calories when i walk, climb stairs and so on but in my case, i've burn almost the same amount of calories without doing HIIT :)

Yes, but you are buring the additional 400 calories over several hours, rather than in just 44 minutes.

Vivoactive hr: Active calories absurdly high

I have a similar problem. I have new VA HR, and I have an older MIO FUZE and a current FItbit Charge 2 to compare against, plus my common sense.

TOday I did some light 3.5 mi bicycling for some 230 calories, and an unhurried 1 mile walk for another 200 calories. These were a bit higher than my other 2 devices, but within the 30% error I expect from each.

However, by 4 pm in the afternoon I have accumulated 1,617 ACTIVE calories (not resting, not BMR, ACTIVE calories) sitting in front of a computer and going to the bathroom or the water fountain. I even had lunch at my desk.

This is first, against common sense: 1,600-430~=1,200 calories. I would have to ride my bike an additional 20 miles to get there. By contrast, my MIO (which counted fewer calories in the exercise) says I have 420 calories accumulated in the day, including the bike and walk. Allowing for a 30% error, call it 550 cals, the GArmin is still off by factor of 3 ! (as in 300%).

I dont know whether it is a hardware issue (I bought a refurbished unit) or a soft/firmware issue. I am tempted to think the latter because calories are not measured in any way, it is a calculation based on time, HR, and perhaps distance. HR is accurate and so it GPS distance in my unit. Steps are too high by about 30% but I can live with that. So, how do calories end up 300% too high?

So is it unique to my unit? Are others complaining of similar GROSS differences? Or no one really pays attention to the calorie count and I shouldnt either?

Personally, I find that active calories reasonably reflects exercise + steps counted. But you are right - your active calories are way off.

It is worth checking that your resting and max HR, and bodyweight (especially kg vs pounds) are entered correctly in the Physiological Metrics.
