Hard Reset

Hey all,

Was searching the forum and the F5 manul and found two ways to do a hard reset/factory reset:

Hard reset / factory reset:
Turn OFF the Fenix
Press and HOLD LAP button
Power on (still holding the LAP button)
You will get the menu “Clean user data: Yes/No?” release LAP button
Choose yes

and

Hold LIGHT for at least 25 seconds, till the screen goes dark
Hold LIGHT for one second to turn on your device.

Which is correct?

I think the light button is just a "soft" reset. I had my watch stuck at the USB connection screen and did that to reboot it.

I have no experience with the other, but it sounds like a "hard" reset setting it back to square one.

The top one is indeed a hard reset, which will erase all data and take you back to square one.

The first one, involving the lap button, would be a "factory reset." This clears all the data.

The second one, holding the light button until it turns off, is a "hard reset." A "hard reset" is just an ungraceful power-down, like holding the power button on your computer until it turns off (or pulling the power plug).

For completeness, a "soft reset" would be just rebooting it the "proper" way via the menus.

Sometimes "factory reset" and "hard reset" are used interchangeably, which can confuse things though. As long as you understand what the methods really do, that's all that matters.

Hard Reset can lead to unnecessary trouble to phone , if you are going to hard reset your phone for want to wipe phone data , why not try to use third-party tools ?

Ok , i just see you mention is reset the phone, as the reset phone , this is a dangerous program for us , in the worst case, which can caused data loss, if i were any user , i would rather spend money on erase data than reset phone

Your comment seems very contradiction, why reset phone will bring unnecessary trouble? even if the reset can not completely delete everything from phone , but it still can delete everything or reset phone device ,
To completely delete data , you can erase them after reset

Do remember to backup your phone data before resetting or erasing.
