Big battery drop overnight

Been loving the battery so far. Have had the watch since the afternoon of 04/19 and haven't charged it since. However, last night I went to bed with 41% battery and woke up to see it dropped down to 32%. That's the biggest overnight drop I've seen since typically it will lose 1% overnight. Does the battery just deplete a lot quicker once it gets to 40%?

Note: Haven't changed any setting in well over a week.

Wow since the 19th and no charge ? my battery doesn't last longer than 7 days with a 1h workout everyday (no gps).
Can you please describe your usage scenario? watch face used, activities recorded and so on ?

Digic watch face. Admittedly haven't done a ton of activities on the watch as I still use my Edge 520 for cycling. Only did 3 or so runs outside so far, mostly treadmill runs so GPS not a factor on those. Notifications include email, text, and hangouts.
  • My guess would be that it is the battery meter, and not the actual battery draining. The watch is new and it probably needs a cycle or two. I'm not sure if this is true, but it makes more sense.

Garmin claim about 14 days for the F5 in watch mode, so you'd expect about 7% per day, and 2.5% for 8 hours sleep. 1% seems low, 9% seems high, but on average seems OK?

The biggest drains are GPS, backlight and OHR. Vibration motor uses a bit too, but it's pretty brief - unless your notifications are so frequent that your watch feels like its on jumping on a pogo stick. :)

The big variable might be in the backlight came on (accidentally?) overnight.

Agree with the suggestion it may just be a meter issue adjusting to the full battery cycle.
  • Could it be that you had the garmin connect app running in the background on your phone while you were sleeping?
I see similar overnight battery drops when my F5 constantly tries to synch with the app. On the other hand if my phone is off, or the GCM is not running in the background it drops only by 1-3%.
  • For me I have noticed a big drop if there is an issue connecting to the phone.. it seems to use a lot of energy in reconnecting
It has happened when the phone is just... just.. in reach so is constantly connecting, dropping, connecting, dropping etc

Good call. I'm pretty sure I had bluetooth still on when I went to sleep so it might have tried connecting to the GC app.
  • I have a Fenix 5S Plus, newly bought in Nov/Dec 2020. Recently I have noticed that during sleeping the battery drops like 10%! I find it kinda lot, to be honest. Wi-Fi and bluetooth are turned off during night.  (simple watch face). Any ideas?

  • My first question would be to ask about the battery consumption during other periods of the day like daytime or any other period for which you are aware? I suspect that you don't make any configuration changes during he day but just asking to be clear, if you do?
