Real Life Battery Performance

So, yesterday I did 75Km race and used my F5X with the following:

Software 2.9, GPS/GLONASS, 1 Second Recording, Navigation against a course, Map page on mostly on, HRM Run belt paired.

The race took me 8:40 and the battery levels on my F5X went from 98% to 5%!

This makes the watch almost completely unusable for ultras over 75K. Might be because of the map page but there's not much point in paying the extra if you can't use it I guess.

Anyone else seen this type of performance? I was expecting to have around 40-50% left when I finished!

I've found my maps tend to "hang"every so often , when this happens the battery usage is crazy until I do a power off by holding down the light button. When I turn maps off , my usage is much better .

Do you disable them some how or just don't use?
  • I disabled my maps and found my battery was slightly better - did just over 10% for 84 minutes.

I have talkytoaster and a contour overlay installed. I'm beginning to think they're maybe partly responsible at least. I'm going to uninstall them completely and see what happens.

Was expecting better battery life ...

I'm a new owner of an F5X; it's quite an upgrade from my F3 and for the most part I'm happy enough with my investment. I was however expecting better battery performance than my F3 ... currently the F5X seems no better (or worse) than my F3. After using it for 7 days, from an initial charge of 100%, I had 17% left before charging. In the past 7 days I've had total of 100 mins GPS, and 145 mins non-GPS use:

Ride - 80 mins (GPS only, 1 sec, BTE on, HRM, cadence, speed, power, tempe)
Run - 20 mins (GPS & Glonass, 1 sec, HRM, BTE on)
Treadmill Run - 40 mins (HRM, Footpod, BTE on)
Weights - 2 x 30 min sessions (HRM, BTE on)
Indoor bike - 45 mins (HRM, BTE on)
Backlight On with button presses only

So after a total of 4hrs of mixed GPS and non-GPS use, and some fiddling with watchfaces etc, I could probably get 8 days out of it before the battery was totally depleted. Is this the expected 'normal' battery life for an F5X??

According to the manufacturer, the battery life for a fēnix 5x is sligthly lower than for a 5 and the same as for the 3:
5: Battery life: up to 2 weeks in smartwatch mode (depending on settings), up to 24 hours in GPS mode or up to 60 hours in UltraTracTm battery saver mode

5x: Battery life: up to 12 days in smartwatch mode (depending on settings), up to 20 hours in GPS mode or up to 35 hours in UltraTracTm battery saver mode

5s: Battery life: up to 9 days in smartwatch mode (depending on settings), up to 14 hours in GPS mode or up to 35 hours in UltraTracTm battery saver mode

3: Battery life: up to 20 hours in GPS training mode; up to 6 weeks in watch mode

For whatever reason, the manufacturer itself was not promising a longer battery life for the 5x than for the 3. I guess that is because of the enhanced functionality (16 GB of RAM for example). So regardless of what you get in real life, it will not be longer than with the fēnix 3.

55 km, 9:08, charged at 100%, 50% battery after the run.

    BT HR - Polar h7
    GPS, 1 Second
    No maps, no phone connected.

    Looks good for me.
  • I think I now know what's causing the drain.

I ran today for 128 mins and it used 12.3% which is fairly ok. The notable difference is that the phone connection was disabled. I have a Pixel XL and I reckon there's something happening when the phone connection is on during an activity (whether or not the phone is actually in range or not).

  • In my activities my F5X cosnumes about %10 every hour. And sometimes even more, maybe it continues to eat battery when it is in resume later mode.

Also maps consume a lot of power. On daily use sometimes I open an app get GPS fix and take a look at the map. When I returned home screen it lost at least %1 battery. So somedays it uses %10 just having a glance at maps in 4 - 5 hours. Not very satisfied with battery life. I had another F5X and it was almost same with my F3 in battery, but this one seems to burn more.

With 3 hours activity in ultratrac every day i had to recharge 5x after 6days. Now im testing watch mode on may 20 19:00 i charged it to 100% now may 29 02:20 its still on 43% accu just used gps to sync alitude 4 or 5 times. Version 3.30 and GearMin watchface and Tempe connected.
  • Ran a marathon yesterday, 3h45.
1 sec recording, 4 ant+ sensors (RD pod, HR strap, Footpod, Tempe).
Dozen run data field displayed during the event.
    Livetrack enabled as well.(with iPhone)
    F5X went from 100% to 70%
    This represents a 8%/hour consumption

12 days in Watch mode and still 17% accu left test passed. I will recharge it now because deep discharge isnt the best, but im sure it would last 1 or 2 days more.
Synced a few times altimeter over gps.
