5X glitch / mysterious altitude drift

Hey there!
Had anyone of you also had these spontaneous changes in altitude readings?
I was just sitting at home (yes I know, that has to be punished somehow...) as the altitude started to climb up, and it still is...

The dents in the graph are from tryiong to set the altitude by gps again. It didn't help as it started to rise again.

What can that be and how do I stop it? I already tried switching the device off an on again, no effect.
This is exactly the same behaviour I had on my fenix 3 and that was why I returned it.
Now I have the same again, but for a lot more money...
Garmin, prepare for change!

Unfortunately if the baro goes to a specific altitude, you recalibrate it, and it keeps getting there it means it's broken.
(supposing the autocalib is set on OFF)
  • Hmm, all clues lead to a defect sensor. At a 900€ watch that's 3 weeks old.
    Well done, Garmin!

(Currently hopping around 2100m with baro 320mbar and temperature readings about 12°c too low)

There are always faulty units when they are mass produced. Have you tried to get a replacement?
  • I had contact with garmin service and guess what he wrote:
Please ensure that the newest firmware is installed. You can do this by garmin connect.

How sad is this? I don't know if I should feel sorry for him or for me

Meanwhile after messing up three days the 5x settled to the right values again after leaving it off for one night.
I'm curious how long the peace will remain.
  • No drift, just incorrect

Just got my 5X yesterday (have a Tactix Bravo) and my altimeter is about 100 metres off of actual (running fw 2.96). I manually reset it today, but will see how long that lasts. I had a small drift once with the Tactix, but it only lasted a for couple of days and went back to normal after I soaked it in a bit of soap and water.

Update after 3 days: I have done both a run and a walk activity, and although it hasn't reset back to the original altitude I had, it has drifted up about 15 metres since I manually set it. (running fw 3.21 now)
