Longer charge cable?

is the charge/data cable "accessory" any longer than the one that comes with the watch?

for $25, i would hope so, but there is no listing of its length. the little 1 footer is too short to reach my wall charger and rest on my nightstand. it either has to dangle on the floor or i have to go plug it into a computer. first world problems, i know, but still would be nice to have a longer cable. i might just get a usb extension cable if this accessory is short too. hell, an extension cable is cheaper, maybe ill just do that anyway.
  • I would highly doubt it's any longer than the one included with the watch, particularly since length is not mentioned. For what it's worth the replacement cable Garmin sent me in an attempt to remedy the issue of the watch ejecting with any cable movement arrived in individual retail packaging and would appear to be the same thing advertised at your link above for $25.. it's identical in length to my original cable
  • Does the replacement cable work any better than the one included with the watch? If I so much as look at the watch it disconnects.

Well the day I received the new cable I also updated to beta 2.96. The first time using the new cable was during the update and after the update I could not make the watch disconnect from my MacBook despite vigorous attempts shaking the watch/cable itself. With that said I haven't plugged it in since, and the next time it'll be plugged in will be when it needs charging (probably some time next week). I'll report back when I do, but as for now I can't confidently say if it was the beta update or the new cable that caused the different results (or if it was just a lucky anomaly and isn't cured at all)
  • If you need a longer charging cable, why just pick up a USB extension cable? You can find them cheap in many places.

If you have a laptop PC you can also charge from its USB port. A lot of laptops have a port that's always powered, just for this purpose. I measured my watch charging, and at 20% it draws 280mA. It decreases as the battery charges. That's a very small amount that will not cause any significant discharge of your PC. A notebook PC battery is rated for 50 Watt-hours or so. Charging your 5x for 30 minutes will take less than 1 of those Watt-hours, and if the PC is plugged in, then it won't take any charge from the battery.
