Gps 1s vs smart

Which GPS settings do you use for running? 1s or smart?

I know smart still samples every 1s but discards data it deems irrelevant to keep the file size down but not sure how that affect accuracy. I ran a marathon in smart mode last weekend and my fenix 5 logged 42,62km in smart mode. Better than my previous fenix 3 which logged marathon as 41,1...

I almost always use smart recording. I never noticed any issues with distance tracking. The only difference is that the GPS track on the map looks somewhat smoothed but I do not see any significance in it.
