Navigation / map issue

Does anyone else get this black screen when navigating a course? Seems to pop up every few seconds, almost like it is a distance or turning alert. This only seems to be an issue when using routing option 'Follow Course' rather than use map.

I've tried looking in the menu screens to correct but I am having no luck.

I just heard back from Garmin support - there is no way to turn off the alerts while navigating a route. You can turn off all alerts on the watch, but not per activity, and it won't respect the 'don't alert' settings for the course you set in BaseCamp. :(

I hope this is something that gets changed in a future release of the software. I just saw that a beta version adds the ability to hide the message area at the bottom (thank God!), so hopefully they'll add the ability to suppress alerts on an activity-by-activity basis, or even better respect the 'don't alert' setting for a course (that is why that setting exists, after all).
  • Still haven't heard back from Garmin support but the new Beta looks like a good start. However it still doesn't solve the issue of the blank alert issue that I was experiencing.

It would be great if Garmin incorporates in the next update, the option to let you manage the amount of course points that the watch automatically creates. Currently the watch seems to randomly add many more points than needed, resulting in the watch buzzing out of control!
  • I'm really hoping Garmin makes it possible to disable the turn by turn navigation screen as well as navigation alerts (should be a separate option).

Today I used the map to navigate to a point when cycling. It was hopeless with the TBT screen constantly popping up and blocking the map view! A turn alert itself is tolerable when it only vibrates instead of chirping, but it's much easier to see where to turn by looking at the map than reading a street name and distance!
