Feature request: Separate backlight settings for different activities

Unless I'm missing something, it isn't possible to set the backlight to be off for exterior activities and on for indoor activities. It would be so much more convenient if I didn't have to manually change it every time. And, actually, I will just let it stay on for all activities unless I'm going to be on a long bike ride.
  • Turn the backlight off by default in activities, with No Timeout. If you then need it during an activity, then press the backlight button once and it will stay on.
  • That goes out of the window whenever you get an alert or notification.
The backlight will come on and stay on.
If that is indoors or during the day you won't notice and the battery will be draining heavily.

The feature request stands. I have asked before also as it is a really bad implementation as it is.
It would make far more sense to have it as an activity setting as requested.
  • Why not reduce the time the backlight stays on by lowering the timeout P24 of the manual
  • When I'm riding inside I want the backlight on the entire workout because I'm focused on time, HR, PWR and L/R balance (the watch is mounted on the handlebars). Outside, whether riding or on foot, I'm focused on not getting killed, so the watch is really just there to record metrics (the watch is on my wrist so, at most, I only need the backlight set to gesture ON with a short timeout).

After a bit more experimentation, I have come up with a combination of backlight settings that seems to work.

Keys off. Alerts off. Gesture On. No Timeout. This is during activities only - for the watch mode, I do use the timeout.

This way I can check the watch and alerts (you still get the sound and vibration alerts) by turning my wrist to the horizontal and the backlight will come on, but the backlight will go off once I turn my wrist back to the normal vertical position - so no excess battery usage. But if I want to deliberately override this (eg. nightime cycling), I can press the backlight button and it will come on and stay on until I press the backlight button again.

I agree that an activity-by-activity option would be useful, but I thought I'd detail a workaround.
  • I would really like separate settings as well!
