Recovery Question

After Body Combat today, I got this from my watch:

Recovery
58
hours

Easy Effort Recommended

Does that mean that it is recommending that I only do easy workouts for the next 58 hours?

And what does that translate to in terms of TE? 2's and low 3s?

Thanks for any response.

Yes, more or less. Or no workouts at all. Just avoid excessive physical stress.

I don't think those two metrics relate to each other directly.

That is the message for today, tomorrow, depending on what you will do, you will get the same or a different message. Just to keep you excited :-) It might say proceed as usual or similar.

The 58 hours is until FULL recovery. As the recovery time comes down, the message may change, even as if you still have recovery time left. Mine is currently showing "Recovery 17 Hours. Train as usual".

When new, the watch is pretty conservative with training and recovery recommendations. Over a few weeks, as it gets some data to better understand your fitness level and training load, then the advice may be better targetted.

A TE in the 3s is probably too much for an easy workout.
  • Thanks for the input, guys. Very helpful.

I found that for the first few training sessions it gave me excessive rest recommendation. I ignored it and trained as usual. The more sessions I put in, the less rest it recommended. I think it takes a couple of weeks to get calibrated to the individual.

Yes. First Beat's (the company that has the intellectual property behind the fitness and recovery advisor) algorithm includes Activity Class (the number of hours of exercise per week) as a variable. Suunto allows you to set this directly, but Garmin bases it off your recent exercise history - which is nil with a new watch or factory reset.
