Keeping the fenix 5 and 935

Having tried out both the fenix 5 and 935, I really couldn't decide between the two. Each have their own merits, so I am keeping both.

The fenix 5 will be my day watch and I really like it paired with the slate grey link band. Also have the leather band on order. The 935 will primarily be used for running/duathlons and the occasional bike ride.

I have noticed that the steps sync with Garmin Connect, so stay in sync between both devices, even if they are used on the same day which is nice. Does anyone else know which other apps sync seamlessly between more than one Garmin device?

VO2 max and recovery estimates are already inaccurate in my case, as I use an Edge 1000 for cycling.

I should add that the fenix 5 standard edition's bezel looks more matt than glossy. Also, the screen retains fingerprints and smudges a little easier compared to my sapphire fenix 5.

    Lucky you :-)
  • Is anyone else in the same boat and any suggestions on how to keep both devices in sync?

That's "TrueUp", and if you have multiple watches on the same account, your 24/7 activity info (steps, etc) are synced like this, so you can switch watches any time you want. (I have 4 on the same account and it works great!) It's done by Garmin Connect Mobile on your phone.

Activities and related data aren't synced (if you record a run on the 935 you'll not see it on the f5), and TrueUp isn't used with non-watches/non-24/7 trackers like an Edge.

Cheers, mate. That sounds about right. I wish Garmin would have all the training data and metrics synced as well. Would make life so much easier.

Can I sneak a peek at your F5 with the metal band? Contemplating that myself

I also have both though I am considering returning the F5 (black sapphire)... Like you, I've been wearing it as my day-to-day watch and using the 935 to record activities.

And like Jim explained, only Activity Tracking stats (i.e. steps, stairs, sleep, etc) are synced whereas workouts are not. Would be nice to at the very least have Performance stats/Training Status synced.

Can I ask which F5 you have? Is it the black or silver/blue band? If I decide to keep the F5 I'm debating on whether swapping out for the Silver unit with a leather strap. Would like to see it if thats what you have.

Sure thing, I'll upload a couple of pics later this evening.

It's a long story, but I went for the standard slate grey fenix 5, currently paired with the slate grey link band. I have also got the brown leather strap on order so will be using that as well.

In all honesty, I know keeping two fenix watches is overkill for some. But the fenix 5 is pretty much my day-to-day watch. I was planing to get the Apple Watch 3 (when available) but highly doubt that now as I have been using my 1st gen Apple Watch less and less. I much prefer the aesthetics of the fenix as my smart watch.
  • I decided to keep my F5 alongside my old watch too, I like the F5 for looks and features but my tomtom is way more accurate for GPS. So now I've got 2 like a crazy person.

Would love if you could somehow pull just the GPS data from a second device into the F5, either post run or on the fly like you can do with HR chest straps etc.

Have you tried Fit File Tools? May be a bit cumbersome but might work for what you want.

    1. Remove GPS data from Fenix,
    2. Remove everything but GPS from TomTom
    3. Combine files
