When I create a course or route to a destination on a routeable map with included elevation data and start the device, the distance shown in the elevation plot did not match with the distance in the "rem. distance" data field. The distance in the "rem. distance" data field is wrong, I think it shows only the "direct routing" distance instead of the real distance (which is shown in the elevation plot). Some guys in the German garmin forum have the same issue. Of course we have not set the routing to "direct routing".
Nobody else this prob? Or is my english "to bad" to understand?
I havent had a chance to try it yet but its definatley on my list as I use that field alot on my trips

I had the same problem you raised in your OP - and also, when creating courses on the 5X itself, even using a routable map with elevation contours/data, I end up with a route that just zig-zags directly from waypoint to waypoint, instead of going along trails/roads. The only way my 5X stays on trails/roads is through direct navigation to a single destination.

I just a test without importing a route and doing the route directly on the 5x itself. You are correct, its a direct line of sight and does not follow the route(s) it should be.
