Here is a comparison I did today with my Fenix 5 and Ambit 3 Peak.

Wore both devices on my left wrist. GPS set to best/GPS+GLONASS.
Both set to 1 second recording.
F5 OHR, and A3P chest strap

Looks pretty darn good to me.

The Suunto looks like it's on rails, the Fenix is a bit wobbly. The antenna placement on the Ambit obviously helps here. Can you redo the test but this time tape the Garmin to your head?

You can clearly see the very erratic speed measurements of the Garmin, as was noted in the thread on pace accuracy. Another data point to confirm this weak spot of the Fenix.

I think the tracks look good and are only .02 difference. And no, I'm not going to run around with a watch taped to my head. I felt a little weird running around with 2 on the same wrist.

I would say more like a little erratic. You do realize I was running on certain parts right?

I don't run races or anything, so I don't really have to depend on pin point accuracy with instant pace. The average pace is fine and I'm sure Garmin will improve things with future updates.

My Fenix 5 tracks better than my Fenix 3 and like you say I'm sure it will only get better with future updates.
  • The Fenix track looks ok really. Interesting though that the Fenix says you had 25m elevation gain while the Ambit says 5m.

The A3P was sitting in my bag for well over a month and has not been calibrated in even longer than that. I think the F5 auto calibrates when an activity is started.
