Problems with Ant+ connectivity

Does anybody NOT have problems with third party ANT+ devices and the F5? My experience is as follows:
- Stryd: not usable; tons of drop-outs on runs. Most importantly long pauses of 30-60s with zero values
- Powertap P1 pedals: around 10-20 drop-outs on a 50 mile ride; most of these drops are really short
- Stages: Useless - zero connectivity - tried Bluetooth and ANT+

Wondering if the F5 is just flawed (weak antennas?) or if I got a bad model. Spoke to Garmin support two weeks ago and they asked me to wait for further software updates.

Are there people out there that do not have these kind of problems?

Just want to update about Stryd. I have a Fenix 5 Sapphire and have never had any real problems with heart rate dropouts (a few couple seconds on the odd run), but I just got a Stryd and ran a marathon with it. Not a single dropout. You can see the plots below. This was on 5.10SW.

My Stryd is working pretty well with my F5 now since I disconnected the Running Dynamics pod I was also using

it seems that more than one device connected was overwhelming it

I lost about 60 seconds worth of data on a 2 hour 40 run at the weekend, I can live with that
  • The Fenix 5 Sapphire is currently unusable as a multi-sport watch. I experienced major drop issues with my Powertap P1 pedals and actually bought a FR 935 as I heard they are better with respect to dropouts. It's improved but still far from what I would expect for the top of the line multisport watch. I previously had a Suunto Ambit3 and it was bullet proof; GPS accuracy was great with no lag and stayed connected to my devices (as its BLE only).

I am very disappointed in my experienced with Garmin and am thinking of trying out the new Trainer model.

just had a reply from Garmin on the support ticket I logged

apparently this has never been reported before :mad:

come on Garmin, man up and admit there's a problem!
  • would love to hear the results this new watch gave on ANT+...

I didnt have the opportunity to thoroughly test the new watch. I did a 1 hour bike ride and a 30 minutes bodyweight workout (squats, burpes, pull and pushups ...) and hadn't got any dropout. I never had problems during running and cycling, however in bodyweight exercises it used to have some dropouts, that this time didn?t occur...
  • I do not have massive issues but it appears to me that ANT+ connectivity became a bit less stable in the 5.83 beta - I used to see tempe dropouts of few seconds but in my past 2 runs I started experiencing chest HRM dropouts. Anyone else?

my Stryd performed flawlessly with 5.83 last night when I'd have expected a few dropouts
  • dropouts what dropouts
i cant even pair my 5X with any of my ant+ sensors but bluetoothsensors work fine

Haven't really found a pattern to drop outs. What triggers it is a bit of a mystery. Sometimes I may be drop out free for example my last run was very rainy and I was running through puddles, wiping glasses etc. so plenty of chance for drop outs and yet the run was totally drop out free. Then I may have a run with all devices with full battery, good conditions and I may get a few drop outs. Only thing I've found that booting the watch *might* help. But not sure.

Still for me the drop out issue is not bad and I can definitely live with it. The worst run yet had perhaps 10-20 dropouts and the Stryd distance was only 1% short so I still wouldn't call it a ruined workout... Usually I have 1 or 2 drop outs and for many runs none at all.
  • Did my first run with stryd today and disappointed, look at this. A lots of food right?
