Problems with Ant+ connectivity

Does anybody NOT have problems with third party ANT+ devices and the F5? My experience is as follows:
- Stryd: not usable; tons of drop-outs on runs. Most importantly long pauses of 30-60s with zero values
- Powertap P1 pedals: around 10-20 drop-outs on a 50 mile ride; most of these drops are really short
- Stages: Useless - zero connectivity - tried Bluetooth and ANT+

Wondering if the F5 is just flawed (weak antennas?) or if I got a bad model. Spoke to Garmin support two weeks ago and they asked me to wait for further software updates.

Are there people out there that do not have these kind of problems?
  • Thank you for your advice .
I will complain, but could you tell, me how much time you wait for answer garmin support?
Becasue last year they answered in 5 working days, now they answer one times per two weeks. Maybe I on the black list , becaus to many times complaining ?
  • Same problem here when using hrm4. Lots of dropout. Not able to use hrm4 at all.

why would you not complain...is your device working as promoted?

    When not...complain again and again...
or ask for a swap with the FR935
or wait for a swap with the F5 plus version (rumours)

you should be enyoing your F5 and not be here in the forum when all was well with your F5 ;)

    ...

Could you tell me if these examples will be enough for Garmin to complain connection ant+

  • Emailed Garmin as although my F5 Sapphire has experienced no drop outs or connectivity issues yet (have the HRM Tri and speed/cadence sensors) other than a shorter bluetooth range, I am looking to buy the Stryd footpod and Stages power meter and hear they are troublesome.

Reply I got back was as follows (took around 3-4 days FYI):

"We are aware of some connectivity issues on specifically Fenix 5 model (not "s" or "x") and are working on providing a fix. I have added you to an ongoing investigation. Once there is a fix you will be notified by email.

    Kind regards,

Got my Garmin Premium chest HRM strap today. Am sitting here on the couch, just paires the 5S with the strap; wrist HRM disabled. Watching the stock watch HRM chart and see dropouts with no HR reading..
is it because the device senses I am soing no activities and just sitting on the couch and goes into some sort of timeout to save power or can I join the club of the "ANT+ connectivitu issues"??

Added link to HRM widget screen

Also, at times the same screen shows crossed heaet symbol and -- instead of HR reading.

Just opened the sensors and accessorioes..and guess what the HRM strap shows as not connected but as soon as I openes this section it shows connected again

I did put some water on all the sensor areas. I have been sitting without sweating though, does sweating ensure constant moksture necessary for stable readings and connection? I am asking because I have never before used a chest strap.

Now, the watch does not even fins the strap.

Can I just buy a Bluetooth HRM chest strap and use it if the Bluetooth connection is stable? Would Polar H10 strap be compatible?

got thw answer from via PM, ty

update: tries to pair the watch with the strap for w more times, got the strap sensors well wet but this time the 5s didnt even find the strap sensor. Tried looking for all sensors and specifically for extern hrm

going to exchange the strap for a bluetooth one tomorrow

looks more like a running dynamics problem on firmware 7.10
there are a few posts from fenix and fr935 missing running dynamics data from the hrm sensor
suggest to wait for the next firmware
    ...

So you suggest to wait for new firmare and after when happen again write mail to garmin on the new software ?
Maybe this is issue because I have to many device connect hrtm tri/footpod/tempe

To sum it up, it definitely seems like my 5S has significantly issues with ANT+ connectivity.

    What I know.
I have the watch paired with a Garmin Premium HRM chest strap. Wrist HRM turnes off. If I go to settings-sensors and accessories-(sensor name), I can see how the status alternates between Connected, Searching, Not connected.

If I use the stock HRM graph widget: see connection lost (no graph drawn) ver often

BUT my phone has wifi hotspot turned on

Now, I turned the wifi hotspot off, and now the widget has been drawing the graph flawlessly for some 15 minutes,

BUT at the top, the heaer rate value symbol still often changes to a crossed out heart...

What can i conclude from this? The undrawn graphs are also visible in the mobile app.

Also noticed, at times, in the settings (sensor details) not all data about the sensor was shown, and at times more info was shown

anyhow, be it software issues or not its not reliable enough for me..ill replace the strap for a Polar H10 tomorrow and see if it works.

Point is - i couls be thinking its just the glitchy widget, then again if the settings show Connected/searching/not connected, i should assume its not just the widgets issue right?!

Edit: meh getting graph interruptions again.

Its the first day I have this hrm strap. A d only have 1 custom watch face, nothing else has been tampered with.
Have no other sensors in the house. So it is not an issue of interference with other sensors. I will exchange the garmin steap for a bluetooth polar strap tomorrow. If that does not work as well I will return the watch, it would be way too expensive for a watch that cannot even ensufe reliable hrm readings..and i dont even nees detailes dynamics

rather sad so far cuz overall I love this watch
