Problems with Ant+ connectivity

Does anybody NOT have problems with third party ANT+ devices and the F5? My experience is as follows:
- Stryd: not usable; tons of drop-outs on runs. Most importantly long pauses of 30-60s with zero values
- Powertap P1 pedals: around 10-20 drop-outs on a 50 mile ride; most of these drops are really short
- Stages: Useless - zero connectivity - tried Bluetooth and ANT+

Wondering if the F5 is just flawed (weak antennas?) or if I got a bad model. Spoke to Garmin support two weeks ago and they asked me to wait for further software updates.

Are there people out there that do not have these kind of problems?

as above connect with bluetooth and no issues,

stages with fenix5 numerous times indoor and outdoor no issues, cant comment on ant+ had a couple of issues and then went with bluetooth, it works so dont want to change anything!

How do you choose Bluetooth over Ant+ for Fenix 5 to connect to Stages?
Have searched all over and can't find out how.

    Thanks.
  • I don't believe that Garmin will leave it as a bug. Probably they will improve it in the next FW releases. Or at least I hope so. I send my issue to garmin support. But what is in your opinion the best way to report an issue? I am affraid that if I report it to the polish support, they will suggest factory reset and all that stuff. How to report the issue directly to the developer team?

I was on beta 2.96 on my previous f5 and connectivity was still an issue on that version. I've dropped the beta team an email, I'll post back if anything useful happens.

When adding a sensor, there's an option at the bottom to search for Bluetooth sensors.

Where is this more exactly? I looked for it but could not find it. I am on latest beta.

I did this yesterday with a Scosche Rhythm+, first adding as ANT+ then Bluetooth after the ANT+ drops. If I recall correctly, it was the search for all option, then scroll down to the bottom and there's an option for searching Bluetooth sensors. Unfortunately, I don't have any sensors with me right now to test.

Then you should try the beta out and see if it helps with your issues. Then if it doesn't you will be able to email the beta team. They're usually pretty quick in responding.

If you manage to find some other support channel to report your issue to they will just tell you to install the beta anyway.
  • When I first contacted Garmin support (via Chat) they did not want to help me because I was on the beta software - so be careful. Ultimately you would need to contact Garmin International support to be placed on the list to be notified about a solution to poor ANT reception (I suspect it is a hardware issue as the 935 and 5x do not experience the problem).

I've seen a couple of people posting the latest beta has improved this. I haven't tried it myself yet and not sure if I will until I've heard back from Garmin support.
