Sync Failed - Server Error

My f5 and/or GCM are being a total PITA today.

I charged my f5 today, and since then it's just refused to sync with Garmin Connect Mobile. I get a "failed to sync" red banner on the bottom of the app and there's a red circle with an exclamation mark next to it in Settings>Devices. If I try to sync it from there, I just get "Sync Failed - Server Error"

I've tried turning the f5 off and back on again, removing it from GCM and re-adding it (which took several attempts as it kept saying it couldn't connect to the Garmin servers), deleting GCM from my iPhone and re-installing it, even updating my f5 to the new beta, but still it refuses to sync.

The odd thing is GCM does seem to know how many steps I've done, so some of the sync must be taking place, but then it just fails and stuff like HR isn't showing in GCM.

I know the last resort is to do a hard reset, but now I've finally got to the stage where my VO2 maxes and Training Status data is beginning to come together, I REALLY don't want to have to go back to Day 1.

Any ideas?

I just experienced the same thing after probably my best ride in a while.. Man i'm really pissed off. I was looking forward to comparing my stats to my last ride, this really pisses me off. First time it's happened and of course on my best ride. It might have something to do with the last firmware update. Can't believe it, sh.. !!!.
Some stats came over but vo2 and performance stats fail to cross over , it says network fail every time I try. Performance stats says network fail while synching is fine with everything else??

I'd like to say I'm glad it's not just me, but I don't think that would make you feel any better. Have you tried connecting your f5 to a computer and syncing over Garmin Express? Mine still works OK doing that.

Yeah, out of frustration, I haven't connected to computer yet but I will when I have a chance.
  • After deleting, re-installing, adding, removing and hours of frustration, I think I might finally have sorted it. I was running an iOS beta on my iPhone (10.3.2 beta 3) - I've rolled back to the current public version and so far it seems to by syncing again.

Early days yet, and I may end up having spoken too soon, but just wanted to share this if anyone else is having this issue and running a beta iOS.

I'm having the same issue. I unenroleld from the beta program but how do I revert back to the old iOS? Do I have to do a full restore?

    What worked for me was:

Make sure you've got a backup of phone

    Turn off phone

Plug lighting cable into computer ONLY

Hold down 'Home' button on phone (or 'Volume Down' on iPhone 7/7+)

While still holding down button, Plug lightning cable into phone

You should get the 'connect to iTunes' screen on phone

Start iTunes if it doesn't start itself

You should then get a message saying the phone needs to be restored, with two options (I can't remember what they are, but one implies it keeps your data intact - choose that one, or do a full restore and then recover from your backup)

iTunes should download iOS 10.3.1 and update your phone to it

I had the same. No connection with garmin connect first and then Express too. It was error connected with device settings sync as logs states. I've done dozen actions to solve it but no luck. Finally I have paired the F5x with another account and it work fine now except steps history... for me it happens just after garmin connect update in my 6s iPhone (13.09.2017). And I had the same issue before - No update on vo2max at garmin connect...
  • I'm having the same issue, sync error in Connect mobile android for my fenix 5. Did you try, on the connect website, to open device settings for your fenix? I get an error page. There must be something wrong at the backend side. I contacted support in NL but didn't get a reply yet. Sync by wifi also errors out. I'm using the new my day screen in Connect Mobile.
  • This is exactly what happened with my fenix 5 on Sunday. On Garmin connect website under device fenix 5, error with a unhappy smilie. No way! Everything tried including a hardreset, then mail and call support, support say me its garmin connect website, so far nothing until today happened. A new account opened. VO2max etc. is gone. Support is lame, really annoying. For a high-priced product, not acceptable. I wish, the phone support has access to delete devices from the DB, so support would faster.
  • I'm experiencing the same as you today. With Garmin Connect on my iPhone, everything was working. I had to connect it to my Mac to charge it. So after first Sync in Garmin Express on MAC, the red banner happen and since, it got the same message every try (mac). What's funny, it that i can access my Application and manage them...
I will wait after my watch finish to charge to unplug it and try to sync it back with Connect on iPhone.
If it doesn't work, i will revert the Beta Garmin Connect to base Garmin Connect. Will see if it sync. If yes, i will do a try back on MAC.
    Wll come back to share.
