Barometer value

Hey guys, i've had my fenix 5x for 2 weeks now, i think after the sw update 2.90 something happened with the barometer, meaning the msl adjusted pressure it indicates for a specific location (i know the exact altitude and msl pressure from the metar-taf report of an airport) is 4.5-5 mbar higher than it should be, with the watch on my wrist. If i'm not wearing it, it shows roughly 3 mbar more. I know that the algorithm through which the watch calculates the pressure from the user-input altitude or viceversa takes into account the temperature too, but what could the cause be for such an error? I do not know the specific moment when the value started to drift from the correct value, and some people on suunto forums said (and it is also stated in the suunto manual, suunto core that is) that if you use the watch in baro mode for a long time, with the watch not being in the exact same spot, meaning both the altitude and the ambient pressure change, the msl pressure can be erroneously calculated. But i haven't done that, it was always on auto mode. Thx!
  • I think the barometer value on fenix 5 is not an absolute air pressure as measuring by app in smartwatch. Maybe it's a modified value, elaborating with a known (gps or value) elevation and its own known MSL. The barometer value will change when you calibrate altimeter by entering an elevation.

With somewhat same gps elevation, 2 iphone and samsung galaxy s7 show +/- 6mBar lower than my fenix 5. After resetting the fenix 5 (from watch face, holding light button +25s), it shows smaller difference +/- 2mBar but way (wrong) difference elevation.

    Any updates on this?

I'm sitting with a brand new Fenix 5x running 4.10. By calibrating the altimeter to 0 ft, the barometer runs about 4.5 mbar higher than my Suunto Core, smartphone, and local weather station which all agree. As noted by others, this isn't the only thread mentioning this issue, and almost everyone seems to be off by about the same amount.

I am also facing this problem and it drives me bonkers, I value the barometer reading more than the altimeter so I just calibrated the altimeter to a false elevation to get the correct pressure at my place (comparing to my Weather Station reading which has been properly calibrated).
Even putting the watch mode in Barometer mode to hold to the altimeter at a fixed reading does not help.
Garmin can you please add the option to calibrate the altimeter without touching the barometer readings or visa versa.

Calibrate the barometer with this widget: https://apps.garmin.com/da-DK/apps/c4c7fb2b-05ba-4b01-9dcd-f19fa2c298b5#0

I tried installing that widget Allan but all I get is the connectIQ image with a !. Restarted my 5X and uninstalled/ reinstalled but I can't get that widget to work.

Well, I have had a similar issue with my 5X with the barometer calibration being out approx 5mb even when calibrated. It tracked elevation changes without issue however. It bugged me, but I held out hoping a firmware fix would be on the cards but that never eventuated. It was only when my wife purchased her 5S that was calibrated perfectly that I chose to contact Garmin support.

My 5X was one of the first with a serial number under 500 (I received the first batch in the country). Garmin support were great and we went through the whole, reset to defaults & restart. Reload the latest firmware and retest etc. I was then asked to take photos of my 5X alongside my wife's 5S. On receiving the pics, Garmin authorised a return and my 5X was replaced with a brand new, boxed 5X. I'm happy to report that this replacement is working perfectly and both Fenix devices are now reporting within 0.2mb of the local weather station.
