Fénix 5x screen flickering

Is there anyone who has this little flicker on the screen? Is seen with any type of light (sunlight or indoor) and with the backlight off on the clock. it's a small flickering, but the screen of my fenix3 is completely fix compared with the screen of the fenix 5x

  • So basically, and if i read the 9 pages of this post correctly, all replaced units are also showing the issue.
Either it's a massive systemic quality issue that should be acknowledged and corrected asap by Garmin or it's "as designed" but we really need an official statement i guess.
My Watch is on the road to Garmin tech support right now and I also engaged with beta team on this one, pointing the team to the YouTube évidences.....let's see now.

I am happy to report that my replacement 5x did not have the screen flickering problem. The serial number of my original 5x was 54G0022XX. My replacement 5x is 54G0058XX. I don't think the flickering problem can be solved with a firmware update (and is definitely not a feature based upon my communications with Garmin). Based on my experience, I think it is a hardware issue. Unfortunately, this thread suggests that certain 5x's with serial numbers higher than mine continue to show the flickering problem. Maybe bad batches? Or a bad supplier? In any event, if you have the flickering problem and it bothers you, I suggest that you contact Garmin's tech support to exchange it for a new 5x. Garmin's tech support was very helpful and great to deal with.

I can bet you will see flickering in day or two. In my case it appeared after 2 days. Had 2 replacements:(
When i got the third i was happy as you are at the begining- no flickering. After 2 days it started again.... ehhhh Garmin tell us what the fuc. Is going on eith your super duper watches!!!!!
  • I see some faint flickering when: a) there is a white background, b) the backlight is off, and c) the watch is at an angle. Frankly, it doesn't bother me, but from a video of someone else's watch I saw on here, perhaps mine is a lot more minor and less noticeable.
  • I had the flickering on my 5, I got it replaced and there is no flickering. I have had the new one over a week, so we will see if the flickering starts again anytime soon.

  • Hello all, I had a bad screen flicker (nothing like some have mentioned, it was awful in all conditions). Spoke to Garmin who said they're aware of a bad batch, got it replaced in a few days and the new ones fine. Totally different, the first one I had was always flickering and bright even with the brightness turned down. This one seems fine but the altimeter isn't too amazing it seems bit that's another story!

That sucks if its true for all devices. Can anyone else confirm that a replacement unit started flickering again after few days?
Im planning to give back my F5 but i would hate to wait for a month for the replacement that will have the exact same issues.

Mine is behaving as above and I never really noticed until I read this thread and checked.

I replaced two units already, every single one of them flickers. What is weird is that in the first one-two days, it is not visible, then it starts doing it :) it depends on the angle and the background colour, but it's still kinda annoying. The first one ended in xx3xxx, the second xx6xxx, and the current one is xx16xxx, so i don't think it's a batch problem because there is a difference of ten thousand at the serial nr. Somebody told me it has to do with the screen refresh rate and that it's not a hw problem. All in all it's not something that bad, except that garmin should tell us what is the cause and that it's not an actual issue.
