Map Orientation Bug?

When using the map screen during either a run or hike activity I sometimes see the map rotated through 180 degrees. This occurs after I have been tracking in one direction and then turn around. The north indicator ends up pointing south.

My assumption was that this was caused by the compass setting -> Auto [Instead of ON] but having changed this it makes no difference. I am not sure it always happens because I only notice it when it is wrong.

My other settings are Map -> Track Up

Have I missed something or is this a bug?

I've had this before and I wonder if it's because it rotates the map based on the direction you've been in rather than the compass, to save battery life. I'm not sure. I don't think its normal because the map doesn't always behave like this. What you could try is calibrating the compass. You have to move it around in a figure of eight during the calibration process. I also adjusted the map detail level and played around with a few settings; I haven't noticed it since.

I've also had the compass crash altogether. Garmin of course state they cannot replicate the fault and treat me like I made up the problem so my advice would be that if you if you contact Garmin with this, you might want to include a video.

Track up means your arrow will always point the direction you are going while you are looking at your watch, aka "up/forward". If you want N to always be up, then you'd change that to North up.

It happened today and I re-calibrated the compass the the problem was immediately solved.
