Can someone help me find how I can enable auto lap by location? I just got my shiny new fenix 5, and wanted to try out some track running. BTW, do I see it right? There is no track running app (sport profile)? If I can find out how to enable auto lap by location, I can make a copy of the regular run profile and set it to use auto lap by location.
Thanks, I installed the data field, I'll give it a try next time I go running on the tracks.
However, as many pointed out in the data field's reviews, due to Garmin's limitations, the laps don't go recorded in the FIT file, so it's only to look at while running.
I'll be honest, I am fairly disappointed with the fenix 5 so far. My old V800 beats it every possible way... I hope the next firmware update will bring many new features.
CHUNKYWIZARD, you are right, I can't really explain how I arrived to the point to make the decision of switching to Garmin. I guess I only have one rational explanation, and it's the equipment tracking that Polar doesn't have. Otherwise it was just me wanting something new... ;-) I've been thinking about trying the fenix since the 3 came out, and it was a moment of weakness I eventually pressed the order now button.
I tried the datafield, and it works, but I made the mistake of enabling distance based auto lap at the same time, hoping I can cheat the lack of recording of laps by the datafiled. I thought the datafiled would count the laps based on location, while the distance based would record them in the data stream. Well, turns out, if you have the distance based laps on too, they are counted by the datafiled too, and of course, gps based distance is never so accurate that the two would count the laps equally, so eventually each lap was counted twice by the datafield. To be honest, I was running on the third track, so one lap was a bit longer than 400m, hence the locations of completing one lap (measured by two different ways) were shifting apart fairly quickly. You can see in the attached exercise, I ran 25 laps, but it was almost 26 times 400m.
