Getting some poor GPS on bike rides

Ride today - I was using 1 second timing with GPS/Glonass setting. Friend was using iPhone with Strava. Hopefully the pics are attached. GPS was way off on 5x. Funny enough on a Sunday ride through a heavily wooded area it did much better!

Hmmm files failed to upload.

Anyway, the iPhone shows tracking along the trail pretty much spot on. The 5x shows the 'up' trail not following the curves of the trail and the return ride is about 20 foot away. Disappointing.

Did you have GLONASS enabled? Doing so made a signicant improvement in accuracy for me.

I do indeed. Have both GPS, 1 second interval, all maps, 3D enabled now.

Last night I rode a fairly technical trail where there was fair amounts of tree coverage in places plus some very varied terrain, switching from single track, road, jeep tracks, etc. The GPS actually fared very well. Not always on the trail but within a few feet and the return followed the ride out fairly closely. The distance was a little short in the garmin app but Strava read the distance correctly from the imported data.

I do like finishing the ride after 3 hours and seeing the watch at 76 percent. My old band would have been red on battery and due for a charge. :-)
