Totally loving the watch, but when I'm away from my technology is there anyway of creating a course using a mobile app or web site (garmin connect desktop is not usable on a mobile phone) and syncing it with garmin connect?
  • Yes...directly on GC

On iphone, using Safari, log into your GC account at www.connect.garmin.com.

    - Top left menu, choose "Courses"
    - Top right page click "+ Create Course"
    - use map to drop your course points
    - name and save course (right side of page)

It works, but a little tricky zooming and navigating map on iphone. Unfortunately there does not appear to be a way to create courses directly from the GC mobile app.

    Good luck!

    Komoot/GPSies + dynamic.watch

    I do it like that:
I look for routes in Komoot (iPhone) or plan one myself. Sometimes I also use GPSies. Then I export the route as GPX file and put it in iCloud Drive (other cloud storages should work as well). On the F5X I installed routeCourse via Garmin iQ. You can link their website with the app on your Fenix and import GPX routes there. If you open the app on the Fenix you can download the route on your Fenix and use it with the built in navigation.

    I have an android phone.
I am preparing routes (GPX files) in LocusMap: http://www.locusmap.eu/
I am sending files to the wikiloc.com.
    Next (needed net):

The file is saved in courses.
  • As mentioned above (thanks @hsph!) our routeCourse app let's you do this. You create or import routes on our mobile-friendly website https://dynamic.watch then can wirelessly download them using the routeCourse on your watch.

    Thanks.

This could just be the thing I need. a nominal subscription, just making sure it works. Or more correctly, I understand it. :)

    Much appreciated Maniak.

I've tried the dynamic watch, but I want to use my hard paid for garmin topo map on the watch.

Swoody, are you referring to trying dwMap in the past? routeCourse is quite a different beast, as it offers an easy conduit to download routes to your watch, but then you use them with the built in activity and navigation tools, including your topo maps. It steps aside after the download is done, and the downloaded routes are used like any other routes. dwMap has a valuable place on the pre-Fenix 5 watches, but on the 5/5S/5X routeCourse is the better solution.

    Dynamic watch to the rescue?

Cheers.. It does look like I now have two options.. For off-road trails your routing website isn't much use, brilliant for the bike though.. I can create routes in a third party and it looks like I now have two great options to transfer them.. Delighted.

We're looking into adding GraphHopper routing to the https://dynamic.watch/ Route Planner to offer better trail routing in areas where Google Maps is weak, and also to add MTB specific routing, if there is enough demand, so I am guessing you would be a "yes" vote for that as a feature?

I'm already using mapcourse, as it's the only decent way to create routes. But as mentioned, the maps are to poor for hiking.
So if you would add new mapsources that would just be great. But also for hiking if possible, not only mtb.

    Great work so far.

That would be awesome. I'm already using mapCourse right now, as it's the only descent way to create routes on a mobile device. But unfornately the maps not valid for hiking. So it would be great, if you would also add maps for hiking not only for MTB. Think a lot of people would recommend that.

Great work so far. Best IQ App for me at the time.
