Force HR from HRM-Tri

Today I was doing some pool running for rehab while I can't run. I was wearing the HRM-Tri, but the watch was using the OHR during the workout and that was the HR that was uploaded to Garmin Connect. Is there a way to for the watch to use the HRM-Tri during a workout? It didn't ask to download HR when I was finished the activity like my old Fenix 3 would after a swim.

Thanks!
Quinn
  • That's an interesting situation.
I'm going to assume that the HRM-Tri was submerged while you were doing the pool running and that you used an indoor run activity profile. Which in that case the signal wouldn't be getting to the watch due to ANT+ not being strong enough to propagate through the water and wouldn't down load after the activity because run based profiles aren't expecting to do that function.

Your best bet in that situation would probably be creating a custom profile based on the indoor swim profile and then change it to a run in GC afterwards.
  • That's what I'm going to try tomorrow. I copied the indoor swim activity and renamed it. I'll see if that works.
  • I am actually using the HRM-Tri for pool running, too. When I am pool running with the strap I turn off the Fenix 5 wrist HRM and it allows me to download the HR data after the pool running. Looks like this! Elevation data is crazy, mind.. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1661578137

You can force the watch to download the heart rate data from the HRM-Tri. The sport mode doesn't matter. Save the activity as usual, then go view it in History. Scroll down past Details, Laps, ... to "Download Heart Rate" and select that.

This should still work for your original activity. The HRM-Tri has ~18 hours of memory so unless you've used it more than 18 hours since then, the data should still be there. Note that you have to be wearing the HRM-Tri for this to work.

If the activity was already uploaded to GC, you may need to do a manual upload of the new activity (select "+" sign in the upper right corner). You'll end up with a duplicate activity that you can deal with by deleting the first one.

Thank you! That's exactly what I need.
  • download hrm-tri data afterwards does not change training load, training effect...

    Hello,

I am using the HRM-Tri also for example for soccer matches.

normally I try to download the data before the first saving of the activity on the watch.

here the download failed and the watch saved the activity automatically. then I tried to download the hr-data from HRM-Tri later. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1665567450 so the training effect seems to be very low. and almost no influence in training load due to this activity on the watch and interestingly no update on training load on App or Web since this activity.

in my experience if you do the download afterwards it does not change the data for training load, training effect, recovery time and so on

can anybody confirm this? and if this is correct isnt that a bug that has to be changed?

    kr Florian
