Navigation course : no full screen display available

In ref to previous discussion here : https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?371913-Multiple-map-layers&p=967149#post967149

I confirm : with a navigation course, it is not possible to display the map on full screen : whatever your config is for the map (0 datafield in my case), the bottom of the screen always shows the distance to the end of the course (or distance to the course if you are off course)

Very disappointed because I prefer to enjoy a "full screen" map, that is still not easy to see during a trail :mad:

    OK, can view now.

First thing to note is that your video shows that the watch can allow 3 data fields! At least that is what it says on edit of map screen in your video. I do not get that option. Are you on a prior version (before 2.90)? In reality (as represented in 2.90) it is only a maximum of two data fields on a map which perhaps in earlier sw versions represented the map as the third field.

Anyway that aside, your course navigation certainly does show a map without that lower field. I can not get rid of it whatever variation I do of your 'fix'. I will continue to try.

As an addtional thought, perhaps the difference lies in the origin of the course. I do not dowload from GC. I always upload a fit course (converted from a tcx with McBadger tool) into the newfiles folder
  • Yes, what firmware version are the people on who can get 3 data fields in their map? This seems to be key. If you set the map to 3 data fields it seems you get none, with no distance at the bottom. But on my watch it is impossible to select 3 data fields. On my watch, I can only select 0, 1 or 2, and zero gives the distance at the bottom.

What happens if you load the fit course, but don't click "start", and then exit the app? As per the instructions in another post of mine. I too am unable to get three fields and I wonder if some people are having software problems with the navigation system and others aren't. When I exit the navigation app, I find it interesting the watch still thinks its in navigation mode if I then go to the "walk" app.

Agreed. I also went through the steps in the video as shown but I have the zero fields thing also.
The steps in the video are not the same as allowed on my watch.
  • +1. My watch only gives options of 0, 1, 2 fields for the map. Running FW 2.9.

    You're trying to be logical

I'm on 2.9, have the latest Euro 4 maps etc. I do NOT have an option to select 3 fields but if you delete the map, come out, turn the watch off, add it again eventually the watch will select a map that has no fields but says it has three.

This is a bug, don't expect it to be logical.. interestingly, I noticed on dcrainmaker that he had bottom field showing 'stuff'. It looks like the way I have the watch is the bug!

It's nothing to do with the course you select either. it's frustrating but there's a fiddle that eventually works!

I shall leave you all to your own devices.. good luck.

Well, still not working for me having added/deleted the map screen dozens of times. At no time does that rogue 3 field appear. Perhaps it is affected by other map settings or maybe it is a bug in just your watch batch.

Whatever, Garmin need to address this by providing an option to make the course following map information field switchable.

Thanks Swoody for providing a method or "fix around " this problem but no one seems to be able to reproduce your steps and get rid of that bottom field.

    Conclusion: not doable?

So, the general conclusion is that this is not possible at the moment? Even though some few users have gotten it working.

Well, I guess there is an upside to the fact that the 5X is nearly impossible to get hold of in Europe. Maybe this will be ironed out while waiting.

The last fw 2.95 beta changes nothing about that
