Navigation course : no full screen display available

In ref to previous discussion here : https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?371913-Multiple-map-layers&p=967149#post967149

I confirm : with a navigation course, it is not possible to display the map on full screen : whatever your config is for the map (0 datafield in my case), the bottom of the screen always shows the distance to the end of the course (or distance to the course if you are off course)

Very disappointed because I prefer to enjoy a "full screen" map, that is still not easy to see during a trail :confused::mad:
  • Another bug I have noticed is if you start the navigation app and click on a course but don't start the activity, then exit it and then go to walk app, it still thinks you're trying to navigate a course. In practicality it doesn't matter because you have no reason to open the navigation app and not start a course, but it's quite amusing to me. If you're good at beta testing, finding bugs like this is quite easy. Amusingly, whenever I report bugs to Garmin support, they spam me with the "reset your watch" or "update your watch" drivel rather than accept someone who codes might know a little about bugs.

    I don't think I will sodomise my brain cells by reporting this but if someone else wants to, be my guest haha.

    I noticed this thing too
  • Seems to be a demand for the ability to remove the nav screen from a map. I can find no reliable way of doing so either but seems a sensible function to toggle on and off
  • +1 for user-set display. I'd personally remove remaining distance instantly.

    I'd hate to see things like 90-80-70km left when racing a mountain 100k.

    Hopefully Garmin will listen.

    Ok.. I found the fix...

    I know reading this doesn't make sense, but it works!

    Having inadvertently fixed my running map screen for navigation I realised I had the old problem (data field at the bottom) for the bike settings..

    After 30 mins of frustrating playing, I remembered that the running map screen has the setting set to 3 fields and not the obvious 0. A few deleted screens and adds later it's all fixed for bike..

    So... delete the map screen and add it back with 3 fields.. keep deleting and adding until you get one that is blank (i.e. Full map), but has a config of 3.. then it works.. Not obvious but it is a bug!

    Please don't ask me to be more specific, it a bit hit and miss. you'll have to play about like I did!

    You are right that it doesn't make sense. But it does not work for me either.
    Though, as I noted previously, I am still not sure we are talking about the same scenario.

    Addtionally, the choices for map data fields is 0, 1 or 2. There is no 3 field option.

    So if I do a run (without navigation) my map has no fields, just as I set this in the app.

    If I do a run with navigation (using a course I had prepared for the watch) then I get that single (information) field (distance to end or to next turn). I had tried adding and removing the map multiple times as you suggest and even did that for the map in navigation settings. All to no avail.

    Perhaps you can clarify your working scenarion and revisit your instructions.

    Try this:

    * Press the start button
    * Scroll to the activity for which you are wishing to change the map display setting (eg. bike)
    * Press start
    * Hold the menu button in until the setting menu for that activity comes up (in this case, bike settings)
    * Press start
    * First option should be data screens. Hit start button on this option
    * You will now see your data screen. Use up/down buttons to scroll to the navigation map
    * You will see the pencil icon next to the start button. Hit the start button to edit the settings for the map
    * First option is layout. Mine is set to 0 fields and it leaves only the map on my screen when navigating (ie. no metrics). Hit start button while on the layout option to change the number of fields.
    * Use your up/down buttons to change the number of displayed metrics. Hit start when you have selected the desired number
    * Scroll down to field 1, field 2 etc to change what is shown in those fields... I am sure you know the rest!

    Sorry if I have misinterpreted what you are trying to do. Hope this helps.

    Yes, you have misinterpreted.
    Changing fields on maps is simplicity itself.

    The issue concerns following a downloaded course (navigation; as in the thread title and subsequent posts) and the information field (rather than a data field) that shows distance to end of course (or next turn if you have embedded turns). It takes up the bottom quarter of the screen and there is no way of removing it despite having maps set to zero data fields.

    I feel your frustration..

    I know exactly what you mean with the little count down at the bottom.. Here is my watch working fine with a navigated course and also the map showing 3 fields..

    It can be edited ..! But it is a bug so the fix isn't obvious or logical..

    Your link does not work.
    And again you appear to be confusing the issue. Navigating a course yields the information field at the bottom. Data fields in a map are diffrent and can be set to 0, 1 or 2.
