Navigation course : no full screen display available

In ref to previous discussion here : https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?371913-Multiple-map-layers&p=967149#post967149

I confirm : with a navigation course, it is not possible to display the map on full screen : whatever your config is for the map (0 datafield in my case), the bottom of the screen always shows the distance to the end of the course (or distance to the course if you are off course)

Very disappointed because I prefer to enjoy a "full screen" map, that is still not easy to see during a trail :mad:

    Worked for me..

Yes, I navigate. Shame, it worked fine for me. I had to do it in each of the run types as well.. Ie. Run, race, trail run, bike etc..

I can't help but continue to think you are misundertanding the issue here as others have failed with your procedure.

We need to know more than that you are navigating. Are you using a course that you have downloaded to the F5X that appears on your map, not just the breadcrumb trail of your activity but also with the route ahead showing?

And does that map not have the data field in it as it is for other users?

You will know if this is so that the navigation screen setup has its own map just as each activity app profile has its own. Deleting the map and restoring in the app profile is not the same as doing it with navigation settings map screen. I would check myself but am still awating delivery.

Perhaps you could include a screen shot of a course navigation map partly completed that demomstrates the absence of the data field?

Honest it works for me.. 😁

Yes.. Create a course in garmin connect (terrible software), sync up and follow..

I also have routing set to follow course.. May help?

    Hi

Been playing around with navigation on the 5X and also unable to turn off the data display on the map navigation screen.

Also when I create a route gpx in basecamp or connect and export it to the 5X and try to navigate it, the route on the map screen is showing all the course points and looks messy and unreadable. Also the data screen is showing distance to the next course point and not the distance to the finish of the route. Any idea what I am doing wrong. Would really like to get rid of all the course points on the map.

    Thanks

I'm almost tempted to drive the 80 miles to get you to work the magic on my watch!

I have not tried a course created from garmin connect, I have either used an existing activity or used one I downloaded using basecamp. I cannot see that this can make a difference but I'll try anything once.

Yes,I'd like to see that just to make sure we are talking about the exact same thing rather than each of us doing something slightly differently.

Maybe I'll make a short video of exactly what I am doing to make sure this is what SWOODY suggests and is doing.

It sounds like you might want to change the routing settings from "Use Map" to "Follow Course." When "Use Map" is selected, the 5X will take a course from GC and plot it against the underlying map in order to identify turns, etc. It will then display distance to the next turn when you're following the course. If you switch to "Follow Course" it will only display the distance to the end of course. (Additionally, I think that when follow course is selected, it will not plot all of those course points either, but I'm not 100% of that.)

Well, it was a long shot, but I created a course on garmin connect, downloaded this and used this course, but I still see the distance at the bottom of the screen.

I checked the route options and I have the routing set to follow course, so as far as I can tell, I have everything setup as SWOODY suggests, but I cannot get the map full screen when "doing" a course. I played around with various routing and navigation options too, but no luck so far.

I'd love to see a photo or screen shot of a display mid course showing the map full screen.

    Photo..

I do have one, but I'm struggling uploading on my phone. (it's too large I think).

Like a good developer I also switched off the maps in configuration that I didn't use and played about with the routing options all at the same time.. As well as deleting the map screen.. I've tried to replicate the error again and I can't.. Typical!
