Problem with the loading cable

I received my 5x yesterday. Unfortunately I have problems with the loading cable. The connection to the PC is not stable and need to bend the cable slightly at the connector to the watch. Has anyone have similar problems?
Garmin Support will send a new cable and i hope it solves the problem and there is no defect at the connector of the watch.
By the way I am not very happy with the new design of the connector as dirt will get in there quite easy. A plastic cap would be nice to cover it.

  • I had one of the first 5X.

    It connected to the computer 1 time in 20. It was atrocious.

    I sent it back. Today i received a new 5X. It connects everytime.

    The watch plug is very thigh.

    Problem solved.

    That sounds very interesting about a new connector. Could you post a photo?

    After a flurry of emails to Garmin regarding this problem they replied that an RMA order was created and they would get back to me shortly with details on returning my 5x. It's been 5 days and no response. I have experienced real hit-or-miss customer service with Garmin.
  • My new cable showed up and it is much better than before. Solid connection even when moving the watch around while plugged into a USB port.

  • The cable connector looks identical. A photo from my smartphone would probably not reveal any differences as i'm having a hard time seeing them. Maybe the pins are every so slightly thicker/higher inside. There is no doubt that the cable is tighter when plugged into the 5x. I can easily tell the difference between the cable that shipped with my 5x vs the new one just trying to plug/unplug them.
  • I have a watch with the serial starting - 54H047xxx and I have cable issues as well, I ordered a new cable from Amazon (1m after market instead of another OEM) and whilst it's a tighter fit I still had some issues with cable connectivity, I am going to have a chat with Support today just to see if the 54H compared to 54G is region specific and that it's the 047 / 057 part that's generational.
  • Garmin replaced my fenix 5x. I had pre-ordered early from Clever Training and always had issues connecting to any computer. The replacement has not failed once to connect to the same computers, even using the old cable. I hope it stays like this, but seems to have been resolved.
  • I got my replacement today, 54H053 and I am still having issues, no where near as many as I did on the older hardware (and admittedly I am using an after market cable, not the OEM one which I will use shortly).
