Problem with the loading cable

I received my 5x yesterday. Unfortunately I have problems with the loading cable. The connection to the PC is not stable and need to bend the cable slightly at the connector to the watch. Has anyone have similar problems?
Garmin Support will send a new cable and i hope it solves the problem and there is no defect at the connector of the watch.
By the way I am not very happy with the new design of the connector as dirt will get in there quite easy. A plastic cap would be nice to cover it.
All the best

I have had my replacement watch for about a week now and It seems to be stable when connected to my mac. It even works with a USB hub, which my previous one did not.

That sounds very promising. Are you willing to share the serial number of you new watch?

    Thanks
  • My first watch was 54H040### and new one 54H063###. I'm having serious map issues with it though. Map not loading or freezing up. Hopefully just 5.3 software causing issue.
  • Are some of the USB issues related to power management setting? I've had issues, non-garmin device connect/disconnect continuously until updating. Try removing "allow pc to turn off power to save power" and enable max power under power setting in windows.

    Thanks for that Skettley.

my current watch, which still has the connection issues, is 54H036962. So yours sounds a lot newer than mine. Perhaps this means Garmin have changed something? I can live in hope!

I'll give Garmin another week or so to get in touch with me
  • Connection to computer sucks on 5x/new cable

Restarting watch and/or cleaning contacts on watch usually solves connection problems, but what the ###$ was wrong with the old cradle from F3? NEVER a problem on that.
  • For what it is worth, my cable connection on my 5x is wonky as well. I chatted with support today via the garmin website chat option and they are shipping me a new cable. The process was pretty painless, the support rep was excellent, and I hope this resolves my issue, but from looking at this thread it doesn't appear to be very likely.
  • Garmin has changed the back cover on the D2 Charlie. The "box" of the connector has another design. We'll see if Garmin makes changes to the back cover of the Fenix 5x. The D2 Charlie and the Fenix 5x have the same hardware and dimensions

  • I never had any problems with the loading cable, but since updating to the 5.4 beta FW this morning I'm seeing the same issues described in this thread. Still seems more like a mechanical than a software problem to me, so it might be a mere coincidence that it happened the first time right after updating.
  • My response from Garmin Europe here in the UK in relation to my issues with connection is as follows:-

"The issue you are referring to is something that we are aware of and are working hard towards a resolution.

I have added you to the following case so that you will be notified once this issue has been resolved.

    Case #: 1335589."

ive asked how long they have been aware of the issue but no reply as yet.

    my Serial is 54H006xxx

Not sure whether to ask for a replacement or to sit and see the solution come through, any thoughts?

At least they are connecting our issues. That's the same case number that I have been given
