Problem with the loading cable

I received my 5x yesterday. Unfortunately I have problems with the loading cable. The connection to the PC is not stable and need to bend the cable slightly at the connector to the watch. Has anyone have similar problems?
Garmin Support will send a new cable and i hope it solves the problem and there is no defect at the connector of the watch.
By the way I am not very happy with the new design of the connector as dirt will get in there quite easy. A plastic cap would be nice to cover it.
All the best

  • I still have the silver pins, and I have problems with the usb connection. Should I contact garmin and get a replacement? The newer "gold" pins don't have this problem?
  • I sent mine today and wait for replacement!

I had the same issue. What worked for me, is really simple. I had to clean the connector of the watch with a medium strong brush. Many dust and other dirt was removed from the connector pins' housing, which probably prevented a proper connection. After doing this (and a restart on the watch, for being sure) the connection worked again. I hope this helps.

Cleaning the pins on watch and cable seems to have worked for me too, I used Blu-Tack to clean. Now it connects every time again, while before I had to plug/unplug several times.

I also experienced 'dirty cable syndrome' causing my watch to actively discharge its battery overnight when plugged into the charger. It isn't that it just wasn't charging, it was actually going flat much faster than it normally would if left off the charger. I found one cable pin recessed. i.e. shorter than the rest. I was initially unsure if that was normal design. Sometimes they do thing like that to make sure one pin contacts last, but this is a bidirectional plug, so I didn't think so. Anyway, I did what any good repairman would do and poked it with something.. Apparently they are spring-loaded. Cleaning with a toothpick allowed it to pop out again and is now springy again.
    I like the blue-tac idea.
  • I think it's about damn time Garmin fixed this cable BS, I'm about sick and tired of plugging and unplugging a $700.00 watch trying to get it to charge and update!!!! Fix the the damn cable problem GARMIN, I'm also sick of scrubbing the pins every week and still it is sporadic at best!!
