Problem with the loading cable

I received my 5x yesterday. Unfortunately I have problems with the loading cable. The connection to the PC is not stable and need to bend the cable slightly at the connector to the watch. Has anyone have similar problems?
Garmin Support will send a new cable and i hope it solves the problem and there is no defect at the connector of the watch.
By the way I am not very happy with the new design of the connector as dirt will get in there quite easy. A plastic cap would be nice to cover it.
All the best

  • My replacement was silver pinned (Which was disappointing after reading about the 'gold' replacements) but in the charges since its been solid, it connects different than the old watch - which I saw the fault with pretty much at the start. I'm hopeful this one won't start to exhibit the same behavior and I find myself wiggle it about, etc, every time I connect it to see if its starting. Time will tell - if this one does go, I'll return it and consider selling the return and getting something else at that point.
  • Well - just plugged it in to get the 7.0 update and its started to drop the connection again... sigh.. anyone with the gold pins started to see that now?

Well the watch hung because of the connection. Restarted watch, managed to wiggle to get a connection. Finally got 7 on. Feeling pissed off.

I’m almost embarrassed to admit it, but my gold pin F5x is still working fine. Obviously it may be the kiss of death me saying it, but so far my replacement gold pin F5x has been great, I am really pleased with it.
  • Think I gave mine the kiss of death by saying it looked good a week before. :-(
  • I had my watch replaced this week. It old unit was one of shipped on launch day so was an early unit from the first batch. It had a few issues with the barometer and altimeter so was replaced. The new unit is different in a number of ways. No connection issues with my Mac via USB. The new watch has the gold connectors. New serial is 54H081362. The replacement was a full boxed retail version including a new strap charge cable the lot. Very surprised as they told me to just send the watch as that is all I would receive. :D

The stress score is now in line with others. My old unit always had me as stressed with a daily average of 65-85. The new unit has a daily average of 35-47 with no changes to my life style. I know these are just a guide and none are accurate but there is a difference.

  • Finally got this resolved. 3 genuine cables later, 2 Win 10 laptops tested, a Mac a Desktop and a load of factory resets. Garmin sent me a new one under warranty (Great service and understanding rep UK) which arrived this week. Gold pins and hasn't missed a beat since.
  • I have my RMA here ready to send back my first replacement for the issue. I got a silver pin replacement, which seemed great at first, that has started to exhibit the old issue again. Granted not as bad but its back. Fighting with myself if I really want to send it back.. I'll just update via wifi and i only need the usb for maps etc.. there is no guarantee I'll get a gold replacement if I do sent it again. sigh
  • I think I bought one of the first Fenix 5X's shipped to Australia back in May.
It had the cable loose problem from day one.
They sent me a new cable which was better but still loose, caused an intermittent connection to PC but did not effect charging.
I left it that way as I didnt want to be without the watch as I was enjoying all its other functions.
I just decided in December to revisit it and contacted Garmin again.
They agreed to send me a new Fenix 5X.
Checking now I see it does have the gold contacts, and the cable when plugged in does not move at all, with stable connection to PC.
  • I am having problems. Connection is very unestable. I have contacted to Garmin Iberia. Waitting for response.
    Regards

Today sent it to Garmin Ibertia. Mine with different cables same problem. When I take it from the table connection is lost and then cable is under metallic band also connection lost.
    Waitting for a solution.
  • Thank you Garmin Iberia!!!!
I sent faulty unit on Thursday and Today (Tuesday) I have received at home a new unit with gold pins and 0 connections problems.
    10/10 Garmin
