Problem with the loading cable

I received my 5x yesterday. Unfortunately I have problems with the loading cable. The connection to the PC is not stable and need to bend the cable slightly at the connector to the watch. Has anyone have similar problems?
Garmin Support will send a new cable and i hope it solves the problem and there is no defect at the connector of the watch.
By the way I am not very happy with the new design of the connector as dirt will get in there quite easy. A plastic cap would be nice to cover it.
All the best

  • My nice new Fenix 5X was connecting and disconnecting every few seconds via the USB cable. I was worried the watch would brick if I was carrying out a firmware update and leave me with a useless bit of metal on a plastic strap - it's possible this could happen if the disconnect happened mid update.

It annoys me too, but I don't think it would brick your watch, as you are just copying the firmware file over - not actively applying the update at that point.

  • Seen a few people get 3rd party cables that seem to work for some people and not others. Recall one seemed to work at first but then ended up down the same rabbit hole.

If they could make everything transfer via Bluetooth or wireless I wouldn't care a jot!

I've got the same problem with the loading cable, a replacement has been no better. Is the watch connector a known issue by Garmin?

They know alright. They just don't seem to want to address it properly. If you contact customer support and jump through a bunch of hoops they will first send you a new cable. It won't be any better than the original. Then, if you keep on them they will issue an RMA for you to send the watch back for replacement. A week or so later you will receive a new watch. It will be exactly like the old one and still won't maintain a connection. Hope you have better luck.........
  • Same problem with F5x cable. I asked about a replacement and they ignored me so in the end I purchased a new one. Has same issue. Basically you have to get an angle that works and wedge the watch in that position. Also it needs to be in a USB port close the the motherboard which is why they made the cable so short i guess. The ports on the front of my computer wont work with the F5x. Charging seems fine but data is always intermittent. I used to talk enthusiastically about my F3 when people asked. I tell people not to buy the F5x.

    Hi,

I'm curious in isolating the problem.
If a new a cable doesn't solve it,
If a new watch doesn't solve it, than what?
Have you guys always have the problem? Since day 1? or after while?
I'm asking this because mine has 30 days of flawless operation in this regard, so I wonder if it is only a matter of time or what.

    Regards,
  • Hi. Stay tuned with the material of the pins in the watch socket. Today I saw a serial number SN 54H079000 with pins in gold color and with no problems in connect stability.

I didn't notice it at first - only when I saw this thread and I checked next time I sync'd! That was probably about a month after I had it - from my terrible memory! I had Garmin send me three replacement cables which all actually seemed worse than the original - with that I can eventually get a connection if I move the watch about, etc.

Some people also have had no issues whatsoever! You could be one of the lucky ones! :-)

It won't do. They need push-pin cables. Meanwhile best hold the connector vertical pushing in slightly.
I've also noticed that GCM is VERY slow. Something's up don't know what to expect (Gearmin stopped working). Some report being unable to patch the maps through GE, others report the OHR is failing (cracked) and here... well... you see Firefox is not holding the cookies and must do the login every time. :-)

This morning I had the GPS tell me the speed but the HR and distance not recording. I lost about 30km of log before being able to stop the group and wait for a new synch after reboot.

New Beta is out but I was still on official. Plenty of issues... baro? Calib 148 at start, 184 at end. No significant weather change. DOH.
  • At the left side watch with SN 54H079000. At the right side watch with SN 54H23000. The cable provided with the SN 54H079000 is exactly the same than the SN 54H023000ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1257526.jpg
