Problem with the loading cable

I received my 5x yesterday. Unfortunately I have problems with the loading cable. The connection to the PC is not stable and need to bend the cable slightly at the connector to the watch. Has anyone have similar problems?
Garmin Support will send a new cable and i hope it solves the problem and there is no defect at the connector of the watch.
By the way I am not very happy with the new design of the connector as dirt will get in there quite easy. A plastic cap would be nice to cover it.
All the best

  • I've been waiting for my replacement cable for 35 days now. Go garmin support! If all goes well I might have a functioning product by the end of the year.

I had one time a disconnect when played around with 5x, best is to dont touch it if it is connected to Garmin Express.
  • Well Garmin have now sent me two new cables which given my wife and I had two cables to start with (see has 5S) I was not holding out much hope are sure enough there is no difference. I will reply again to Garmin stating "ITS NOT THE CABLE!" for the umpteenth time maybe they will just keep sending me cables for ever... nice to have a couple spare not at least!
  • There's a rather odd trick that works for me. I place the watch face down (connector port facing up) and plug in the connector. If the computer gives me an error, I remove the connector, wait for the green lights to come on (takes a second or less) turn the connector around, then plug it back into the watch. I know - it's a universal plug, why should it work better by flipping it around? I can't explain the why, just to say that so far its always done the trick. And with the watch sitting with the heavy part down (the face) its stable and doesn't move.
  • Ebay cable's are better :)

I ordered this cable and they seems to have a lot tighter fit to the watch than the original cable.
I now can pickup my watch after it is connected to my macbook pro 15 sierra without disconnecting.
Some times the watch doesn't mount at all.. but after reboot mac or watch it appears again.
I'll never use the original cable again.

Now at the 10th attempt to plug in the cable and see the F5x recognized by the PC, the OHR is off and the watch menus are not accessible.
This is too much, I'm dropping a mail to Garmin support... now let's see if I can find out how to turn off the watch and have it reboot: it's stuck.
  • I have reported the problem of disconnecting the data cable to garmin. Garmin has replaced the cable with a new one. The problem has not been resolved.
I connected my fenix 5x to the usb port using a usb Trust hub (believe usb 2.0); Now the connection is stable !!!!!!
So, to solve the problem, it seems sufficient to connect the fenix 5x through a usb hub.
I invite you to try and let me know what happens to you.
  • All of you are lucky, cause my fenix 5 doesn't even want to charge. Sometimes it charges ~1-2% and then stops, sometimes even discharges.
I tried it with laptop, power bank and power adaptor with no luck

I have used the same problem, new clock, plug the third time, does not work well. Connection breaks off. At the plug and at the clock everything ok. Plug sits somehow loose. Garmin also sends me a new cable.

Not seen that reported - just the data connectivity. That sounds like a bad cable.

I have tried my original and three that Garmin sent me (Returned because the original was the best) and I get a full charge like everyone, just data connectivity loss. I do find once I get it connected if i don't touch the watch it'll hold - that's an annoyance. If they could just work of wifi for everything wouldn't even be bothered!
