Problem with the loading cable

I received my 5x yesterday. Unfortunately I have problems with the loading cable. The connection to the PC is not stable and need to bend the cable slightly at the connector to the watch. Has anyone have similar problems?
Garmin Support will send a new cable and i hope it solves the problem and there is no defect at the connector of the watch.
By the way I am not very happy with the new design of the connector as dirt will get in there quite easy. A plastic cap would be nice to cover it.
All the best

  • F5X charging cable

The info about the USB socket may well be correct. Ive just used my cable that was causing issues with a portable charger and no issues at all, no intermittent connection. So it looks like the cable and watch connection are fine.
  • My issue was when the charging cable is plugged into the watch and connected to the USB on the computer simply picking up or moving the watch breaks the USB connection. I had put in a call to Garmin and they were sending a new charging cable to see if this solves the problem, since then I have received my Forerunner 935 and when trying that sync cable the intermittent connection is the same. I called Garmin back to report the issue and they had turned my previous call into an open ticket and escalated it to the engineer team, the tech stated they have been getting a lot of calls on the sync cable issue, looks like there may be a batch of watches with bad sockets.
  • I'm having the same issue with my Fenix 5X. The USB connection is lost if even slightly brush the cable with the watch plugged in. Garmin support is sending a new cable, but it seems this is not likely to fix the problem.
  • I received the new cable today and it did not solve my problem :(
Data connection still gets lost as soon as the cable is bent slightly at the watch connector. Now I am thinking if the second cable is also defect or it´s a general 5x problem and I have to live with it or might be an exchange of the watch the solution.
Has anybody with the cable problem solved it with a new cable or a new watch?
    Best regards.

I didn't have this problem until today, when I tried to sync mine via computer for the first time since the 2.90 update. It keeps connecting and disconnecting so much so that I can't see the watch or change anything fast enough for it to sync. But the watch will still show its charging(and indeed, the number continues to rise) when attached to the computer AND wall sockets also charge it via the cable no problem as well. I have a feeling the problem isn't the cable, it's GC or GE. Mine was stable before the latest update.
This was on a Windows 10 OS computer. My hubby has a Windows XP I could try and see if that works any better. But his AVG malware stuff doesn't tend to like my funky GPS watches. So I don't hold out much hope:(
  • I think you're right.

I never ran into this until the other night at a hotel after hiking; the watch was plugged into my laptop (Win10), I bumped it while charging, and it "boing"ed indicating it had disconnected. However, it was still showing "on charge" and kept charging.

I suspect there's an issue with the integrity of the pins and socket on the watch and they aren't quite "solid enough" when engaged. If so it's going to be fun for Garmin to fix it..... although I do believe they can do it with changes to the cable rather than the watch itself.
  • I have just reported this problem to italian support, but they told me that there aren't any case open regarding this problem, i also tell them to see official Garmin forum but they refuse to see this forum also, because they don't consider anything come from forum (even if it's an official forum) as reliable (yes, we all have invented this problem). So simply have listen to me and say "good morning". No words to describe italian support...
  • That's realy bad. Did they offer a new cable or will your watch be exchanged?

NOTHING, they also refuses to believe me and they want a video as a proof!
  • Try charging with a power pack, there is no flaky connection for me when doing so as opposed to disconnection issues on a PC, probably the USB port on the computer that has the issue
