Will US 5X Round-trip routing work in Asia and Europe?

Does the 5X that I bought in US have pre-loaded maps to do round-trip routing for running overseas?

Thank you! I just requested a Generic Routable (new style) maps from garmin.openstreetmap.nl hope it's the right one.

I downloaded all of China from open street. I'm in Shanghai and the map works great and it created a running route just fine. Also the AROUND ME worked as well!

The basemap worldwide & 100k topo maps are not routable turn by turn but are point of interest searchable.
24k topo are routable turn by turn & POI searchable.
Cycling maps are routable turn by turn & also POI searchable.
The included Birds Eye(at least on my USA watch) only has Grand Canyon National Park and is satellite based photos. There are no routing or searchable POIs, think of these maps as just pic backgrounds to enhance your other maps.

So Ive not paid much attention to where the replies to get the maps really are. Are they really only $$? If there are free ones, I would think they are more publicized here.

Yes, there are both paid maps via Garmin and free maps via openstreet and other sources.
I'm sure they are talked about on this forum in some of the other map threads and also if you look on DC Rainmaker's website, he also has a step by step blog post with pics and well written directions on how to add these maps to devices.

I just buy my area though. Which the only thing available for my area right now is a 24k topo map that isn't already on my watch(it came with 100k, Cycling, Basemap, and 1 Birds Eye). I would have liked more to choose from but that's the way the ball bounces. I guess if I want others, I'll need to source them elsewhere. I find the Garmin paid maps worth it and they are easy to download and use, plus they had good tech support & customer service if I have issues. So I just go that route currently.

are the US default topo "routable maps"

they do include the entire US right? so custom maps might only be needed if you were going out of the country?

or are they other reasons to download the opensource maps from that site? If you pick the US, and Idaho or Wyoming (just picking them)
would the maps downloaded from them be more detailed? Once they are installed on the F5x. How does that work? do you select which specific maps are active? or they are all active, and once you get into that area, the watch knows which map to you?
