Alarm won't stay Set and always defaults back to 7am,Off,Friday

Has anyone had an issue with the alarm not staying set after syncing.

I have tried setting the alarm multiple times both on the watch and in the app to repeat daily at noon and whenever I sync the watch, whether it is through the phone or wifi, it defaults back to Friday, 7AM, Off.

I have tried creating a second alarm for Noon, Daily on the watch and deleting the 7AM, Friday alarm and it might stay that way for a few syncs, but inevitably goes back to 7am,Friday,off

Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix?

  • SAME. It's highly annoying... what it seems to be doing is if you have an alarm set in GC, whenever your watch syncs it will revert to whatever is set online (Friday at 7). Even when I delete it, it seems to come back as long as the two are actively paired. The best workaround I've discovered when setting a new alarm is to temporarily turn BT off on the watch, change the alarm online in GC after deleting the old one, delete the alarm on your watch altogether, then turn BT back on and let it sync. Worked for me last night/this morning but it's ridiculous. Same goes with a lot of settings actually...
What would work great is if WHEREVER you change a setting/alarm - be it on the watch or on GC - it would override the other. Instead what seems to happen is when I change a setting on my watch it just reverts back to whatever is in GC after the next sync unless I do the above process to change both places.
  • Make sure you have the alarm time set on GC and GCM on your phone. It might be that the alarm is being reset when you sync.

The point is that when you update/change an alarm on your watch, it shouldn't be overridden by whatever is in GC. It should be the other way around... wherever you initiate a change is where should be controlling. Either way the fantom alarm keeps reappearing regardless of what I change in GC.

I'll also note that this was NOT occurring with my F3... doing nothing differently than I was with that alarm setup now on my 5X but have this issue
  • Granted, it shouldn't be needed, but if you have GC and GCM set the same as the watch, does it still reset?

The only way I've found to be able to avoid the differing reset is if you physically un-pair the watch from GCM (disable BT), change the alarm simultaneously in all three locations (watch, GCM, GC) then pair and sync. If the watch is paired to anything at all (BT or WiFi) then they all try and sync before you have a chance to change all three and back comes your original, undesired alarm.

In it's current state this bug makes the alarm feature (which I utilized daily on my F3) useless, being inconvenient and unreliable at best

Exactly! Same problem here. An alarm is useless when it's overwritten during a sync process. Please Garmin fix this!

Not related to alarms but to the settings not 'sticking'. On the watch I turned off vibrate on key press. Next sync from GC on my Android and it's back. I tested it just to verify and the phone settings overwrite the watch. Making the change on the phone and syncing and the watch is no longer vibrating on key press.

Settings seem to be one way right now based on my experience and other user reports. GE->GC->Watch or something like that and if the settings exists at something higher up the food chain then that setting wins on a sync and changes anything downstream.
  • The alarm problem is really a bummer. I loved the alarm on my F3 since it wouldn't wake up my wife when I had early flights, and I also used it in hotels since I found the vibration nicer and more reliable than an iPhone or hotel alarm clock.

I nearly missed a flight last week when the alarm I set on the watch must have been overridden when the watch synced while I was sleeping, and then this AM I missed my workout (but had a wonderful sleep) when I overslept by nearly 2 hours due to the alarm being "turned off" while I was sleeping.

I thought I was going crazy, but now I've tested and found that the alarm does indeed "reset" when you sync. I'm not sure this is a problem with the F5X, GCM, or what, but it's pretty annoying when a watch doesn't have a reliable alarm capability!
  • Garmin Connect takes precedence on alarms

I found that the Garmin Connect website alarm preferences overwrites everything at this time (GCM and Felix 5X). It's quite annoying, so the only ways to set a reliable alarm are to either (1) disconnect the watch from wifi and BT and keep them off to keep your alarms set on the watch OR (2) set the alarm in Garmin Connect and then sync your watch (either wifi or BT to GCM).
