Fenix 5s - 0 floors climbed!

Hi,

I just bought yesterday my Fenix 5s and overall I'm happy with the product.

Only 1 big issue: no matter how many floors I climb it shows me 0 floors climbed

For example today: I've not use elevator today and got till 13th floor by foot, climbing the stairs. Still 0 floors climbed - in the widget or in Garmin Connect app.

Altimeter seems to work as I going up the altitude seems to raise. Barometer it shows me 1014/1013.

Any advice please?

Or I got a defective unit? Should I go to store and change the watch today?

Thanks.

Tried everything here, 20 stair climbs later — 4 ascends registered, 0 descends, which itself is ridiculous.

+1 for this watch not being worth the money if a two-year-old 1/3 price device is more accurate
  • From reading all the posts. If I want to count the floors I climb each day I've just wasted my money on a Fenix 5s.
    Thanks Garmin

My 5s is counting floors climbed perfectly.
  • Hello I comment my experience with my fenix 5 I have with the 3 days, yesterday afternoon I learned that I was missing 1 floor for my goal, I live in a house of 2 floors I said: with 2 times going up and down it will be enough, I had to go up 4 times (it was strange).

Today in the morning I go up 6 floors every day to get to my work (I know it is 6 because I have measured it with a fenix 3) when I arrived at my place of work my clock said 1 floor (I was surprised). Apply the basic of all support restart it.

I went back down and up and oh surprise told the floors correctly.

Obviously it is a software problem.

I have 1 floor of stairs in the house, and also have a flight of outside stairs to a deck (both are the same height). When using the stairs in the house, the floors counted are erratic (sometimes none, sometimes more up than down, sometimes more down that up, but always wrong). When using the stairs outside it records the exact number.

I face a similar problem as well. Anybody knows what's going on? Raw readings, altimeter all work fine but if a climb 3 floors nothing gets recorded. It happens on a f5.

After using my fenix 5 for more than 6 months now, the floors count suddenly didn't work.

Google was generous enough to direct me here to get my answer :)

From what I read so far and from looking at my watch settings I did something that worked for me.

I looked at the barometer graph and I've seen that the displayed pressure was 828.6 (mmHg) - way too high.
So what I did was to calibrate the barometer using GPS: Calibrate -> Use GPS.
Not sure if that counts, but I did that twice, once at the ground level and once at the 5th floor (outside, of course :) ).
Now the displayed presure is "more normal" - 775 and the floors count got back to normal.

    Hope this helps.
  • This helped me as well when I set the barometer setting to Altimeter. Anotherthing was that when I previously tried the floor climb activity my altimeter was pegging me to be under the sea, i.e. a negative figure. I'm not sure if that could also effect that it does not register climbed floors. Interesting thing in that was that the activity logged elevation gain about right but not ascent. You'd think it's the same metric.

    My device is FR945

  • WTF. This should just work for watch this expensive. I can't even figure out the settings menu on the PoS. This is easily the least intuitive watch I've ever used. Garmin does not make good products.
