BaseCamp not able to export to Fenix 5 Device

One of the great features of BaseCamp was to export GPX courses to the Fenix 3 so I could explore new courses.
Upgrading to the Fenix 5 and it appears that this is no longer possible.
Anyone have any success with Transferring from BaseCamp to Fenix 5?
And bright ideas how to do this?
  • I have the same problem with my Fenix 5/BaseCamp for Mac.

I have also another problem (the same as with my Femin 3HR), almost every time I connect and then disconnect (after unmount it) it the watch freezes and I have to soft reset it. Anyone else?

Yup... Nearly everytime on my Mac when I unmount after being in BaseCamp with Fenix 5... With Fenix 3 it was less often, but still 50% chance of needing a soft reset.
  • I just found a solution for the FREEZE-problem :-)

If I first quit Garmin Express (not just click on the red x) and then unmount my Fenix the watch doesn’t freeze.

So, I have now change the settings for Garmin Express to NOT work in the background and NOT start automatically when I connect a device.

Maybe not the best solution, but it seams to work.
  • I have the same problem, from Basecamp I cannot export a track to fenix 5, the watch is not showing up in the "Select Destination" window.
In the left pane I can see the watch and it's "Internal Storage" folder.

    Windows 10, Basecamp 4.6.2 fenix 5 (2.4)
  • Until Basecamp is updated the workaround is to export the track to other destination (eg. SD card) and then copy the file to the Fenix 5 into Garmin\Newfiles folder.

Quick lesson learned from a newbie.

On my Mac, perhaps it's set by default, the NewFiles folder is invisible. So I had to follow the following steps to see the folder.

The long way to show hidden Mac OS X files is as follows:
Open Terminal found in Finder > Applications > Utilities.
In Terminal, paste the following: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES.
    Press return.
Hold the 'Option/alt' key, then right click on the Finder icon in the dock and click Relaunch.

    Dominic

Same with me... The 'Quick' way to find the file is to click on the 'Garmin' folder and then simply use the search function for NewFiles... and it will then become accessible.
Courses have been transferred and I can report that all is fine...

This is an OK workaround for Basecamp... and not too painful.

Elevation is still missing.... clearly too much to ask for Garmin to regression test their own products. They'd rather release betas.
  • Fixed!

So this (MAC OS) issues is now FIXED with the recent Firmware upgrade!

    Thanks Garmin!
  • Confirmed, with firmware 2.9 I could export a track from Basecamp on Windows to fenix 5.

You can import but still no elevation. Anyone know of any workaround?
