What is the difference between RUN and WALK ?

What is the difference between RUN and WALK ?

If you WALK, you dont get the other two metrics?

So if you walk 40% of the time, put it in WALK? What difference does it make? Very confused.

Also in Garmin Connect, there is no WALK. Its either My Day, Running, Cycling, Swimming, etc. Why is that?

When walking you always have at least one foot on the ground so ground contact time and vertical oscillation doesn't really factor. You don't exactly bounce when walking

Walking can be viewed if you select activities - all activities
  • Walking and running are both shown in Garmin Connect, but even for just basic things, there are differences between the two sports.

For example, if you record a walk, you can see the steps taken during that activity, but not your cadence. For run, no steps, but cadence.

(A Hike and Walk are similar - steps but no cadence)
  • The statement that there is no vertical oscillation while walking is false. Walking while having Garmin set to run mode. My Garmin Running Pod records vertical oscillation due to the heel toe and hip motion of walking.
