Connected... not connected... connected... not connected; weak bluetooth signal

My old Fenix 3 HR would stay connected to my phone via bluetooth at least twice as far as my new F5. Did Garmin decide to gimp the bluetooth transceiver on the F5? It literally buzzes all day long... sometimes when I'm walking only 15 feet away from it. Yes, I can turn off the notification but I really liked how my old Fenix 3 HR would buzz and warn me when I left my phone behind. Nice feature to have. Would hate to lose that feature because of a gimped BT transceiver. I'm hoping that my unit is just defective. Any others here that had a Fenix 3 HR and now have a F5 experiencing the same?
  • So, below is the response I got from Garmin so far. I've upgraded now to 2.95 beta. Don't see any difference for now - lost connection after moving few meters away. Let's see if it'll keep disconnecting while on the same desk...

"our senior team has asked that you upgrade to the beta software that was recently released to see if you notice any improvement".
    And now there's 2.96 beta.
  • For me Beta 2.96 solved the problem of not being able to pair a Bluetooth sensor with Beta 2.95. I hope they also improved the reliabiltiy of ANT+ connections.

    Bluetooth

I'm having the exact same problem. Connection to phone through bluetooth worked perfectly fine betzeen my Fenix 5 and my iphone 6 for more than 2 weeks, and since yesterday, the connection drops all the time even when watch is 10cm from phone. I haven't changed anything, haven't updated anything, and still, it just started out of the blue. I tried restarting watch and phone, re-establishing a new connection through GC, uninstalling app from phone. The only thing I haven't tried is doing a hard reset. If I need to do a hard reset, I'd rather just send the watch and get my money back.

Yeah, I've e-mailed the support now, explaining that I still have issues even on 2.96 beta. Let's see if they will come up with any actions...

Wait, a few meters, and disconnecting while on the same desk?! Man, that seems more hardware related. When I get the disconnect/reconnect, which is much less now on the 2.96 beta, it's through at least one wall or around 30 feet away.

One thing I've noticed with mobile devices and Bluetooth is, the ability of Bluetooth to function seamlessly seems to be less and less on devices that have not had a factory reset in a while. I have an iPhone 6S+ for work, and an iPhone 5S that was given to me by a client. The 6S+ has gone through multiple OS upgrades, has all my work stuff, plus some personal apps, and has not been factory reset in over a year. Contrast that with the 5S, which has very little on it, and has/had been factory reset within a few months. Using the 6S+, I could not get the firmware on my Scosche Rhythm+ upgraded with the Scosche app. I switched over to the 5S and upgraded firmware the first time, zero glitches. Same story with a Suunto Smart Sensor HR belt.

Chevron, sorry to hijack, but firmware upgrade for the Rhythm+? I was told it wasn't upgradeable. Any specific reasons why I might want to replace mine with a newer version at some point?
  • The Scosche app is only available on iOS. No idea what the newer firmwares do, I updated my Scosche when I bought it a year ago to version 2.62 and there's been no further updates since.
  • The Scosche is firmware upgradeable, but it had to be on firmware 2.5 from the factory. Luckily, mine was on 2.5. As to what was changed, it's something silly like controlling music via the Rhythm+'s button. There may have been some silent update in there as well, but who knows?

edit: Apparently there's some units with 3.0x out there. Do not attempt to "upgrade" one of those. Doing so will brick your Rhythm+.

Yeah, happens less since 2.96, but, at least 3-5 times per day and usually won't connect back itself, unless I'll restart BT in the phone. The phone (Android) was flashed few month ago (like totally wiped and re-installed OS)...Clueless...
