Connected... not connected... connected... not connected; weak bluetooth signal

My old Fenix 3 HR would stay connected to my phone via bluetooth at least twice as far as my new F5. Did Garmin decide to gimp the bluetooth transceiver on the F5? It literally buzzes all day long... sometimes when I'm walking only 15 feet away from it. Yes, I can turn off the notification but I really liked how my old Fenix 3 HR would buzz and warn me when I left my phone behind. Nice feature to have. Would hate to lose that feature because of a gimped BT transceiver. I'm hoping that my unit is just defective. Any others here that had a Fenix 3 HR and now have a F5 experiencing the same?

Experiencing same issues with my 5S. Bluetooth range to ridiculously too short. It disconnects when I go to the washroom which is just 5 steps away from my phone! Subscribing to this and hopefully Garmin can answer the questions!

    Hi everyone,
although I absolutely believe in everyone here who says that he has those connection issues... not every Fenix 5 customer is affected.

Using F5 since its first availability in Europe... I connect it to my Android phone - but I use the Android connection (long-press in GC on device, "update connection") and it just works absolutely fine.

    Ciao,
    Chris
  • Thanks,

Tried that before - same issues. "Update connection" does nothing in my case - I mean, nothing happens after tapping this option.

    Please try that :

    1-Open GC
2-Click on device, so go to new screen
3-Tap on device , menu will be shown.
  • I have a Galaxy S7 and was experiencing these issues. I started to think it might be my phone's Bluetooth problem, not the watch, as it worked fine using my tablet.

After reading a bit online, I tried wiping my Galaxy S7 cache partition which can apparently address some Bluetooth issues. Bam Bluetooth working again for now. Will post back if issue persists, but maybe this is worth a try for some of you.good luck.

The issues I'm experiencing are non only between the watch and the smartphone but directly between 5X and other Bluetooth devices like Polar H7 and H10 HRMs.
So for me the problems are only in the poor Bluetooth of the 5X.
Hope this not to be an hardware issue of the 5X...
  • For me it's handy like Bakewell said to not be holding the phone all the time and still seeing texts and inbound phone calls which are about the only notifications I setup to get. The 235 being SO good maybe just spoiled me. Again the F5 seems reasonable as is and certainly not something I would complain about from my personal experience. No connection alert for me so no idea when it's in and out.

I bought a 5X two days ago, and compared it with my Fenix 5 Sapphire, the Bluetooth connection is much more solid and flawless with ANT+ paired with HRM-Tri. The only flaw I can find is the size and weight... I can instantly notice the difference as soon as I put them on.

I'm another user with this problem.

It doesn't seem to reconnect easily sometimes also. I wish Connect Mobile app had a 'reconnect' device function.

Just for reference I'm attaching a printscreen of the HR chart I'm used to get on every single workout (Polar H10 paired with Fenix 5X via Bluetooth).
Please take a look at the red chart below and tell me if it's acceptable.

  • I have a Fenix 5 non sapphire and have also bluetooth connection problems : Bluetooth signal too weak so if I go further than 3 meters from the phone I loose the connection. And it's sometimes not easy to reconnect. That's why I use the app OnlyTwo just mentioned 2 posts above and it help a lot to reconnect everything together.

For running I use a Polar H7 HR and it works pretty good ! I never had a drop.
The only thing that happens sometimes is the watch doesn't find my Polar H7 any more no matter what I try. The only solution I found is to shutdown & restart the watch and then it works again flawlessly and I can make a run without any drop out at all (+/- 1h running).
