Does the altimeter work?

All -

I recently purchased a 3HR because I didn't think I needed the new functionality of the 5, and I got a good deal.

In the category of "you get what you pay for," I'm running into the altimeter issues that many 3HR users have seen (I seem to live at 20,000m, which is tough on the breathing). Disappointing that the watch has been out for a year and they haven't fixed it.

Is anyone running into the same issue with their 5X, in case I decide to return and replace with the 5X (instead of going to a completely different platform)?

Thanks,
Greg

I have not had any issues with my 5x altimeter being spot on. But I also didn't have the issues with my 3 HR either. Rock solid both of them have been for me at my current home & surroundings of 1250-1400.
But it might be curious to hear of who has had 3hr probs, that also see that on the 5x. So is it certain native altitude that's the issue or the watch? Are there people in flatland Florida that have had wonky readings or just high alt people?
Is it possible it's a widget or screen issue? I had one watch IQ face that really made my 3hr be slow and hang up during activity, requiring frequent resets. That was no fun. Deleted watch face and prob gone....
    Was weird.
  • Altimeter is spot on even when inside an elevator. Never bought the F3/F3HR (my previous watch was a Fenix 2) because of the various bugs that were reported but the transition to the 5X was totally worth it for me :).
  • I too was sorely disappointed in my old F3's altimeter. Although I never saw the 20,000'+ issue that a lot of users reported, it was NEVER accurate to more than plus or minus 200 feet and wildly inconsistent. With that said, I've had my 5x for a few days now (running FW 2.4) and it is MUCH better, very consistent and far more accurate than it's predecessor.
  • Absolutely no issues with F3HR, and no probs with F5X so far.
