Fenix 5 Sapphire Wifi

Just got a Fenix 5 Sapphire and I am not able to get a wifi connection to work. I added it in Garmin Express, am using 2.4 gHz and had it working perfectly on my Fenix 3 last week. Any suggestions would be great!

Thank you
  • No problems here either. I've tried turning BT off on my phone a couple of times to make sure the sync is happening via wifi.

    KC2DU's summary is spot on. I'm:
    • Broadcasting SSID;
    • using WPA2 security;
    • 2.4GHz network;
    • no MAC filtering;
    • automatic channels (I'm in North America if it makes a difference)...

    I see no significant issues with range: my (Linksys WRT1900ACT) router is in the basement and I seem to connect everywhere in the house/garage.
  • So MAC filtering is the issue. I just shut it off and it worked. I guess it's another bug.

    Thanks for the help.

    I had the same problem with my Fenix 5 Saphire and finally found the reason: the HW MAC address in the watch's system information is showing up in reversed byte order. So if you have a real WH MAC address of, e.g., 01:23:45:67:89:ab, on the watch it shows up incorrectly as ab:89:67:45:23:01.

    Entering the correct MAC address in the routers filter database works perfectly fine.
  • I have a fenix 5 Sapphire. I set the wi-fi up through garmin express. When i try to connect to Wi_Fi, it says "Network error. Try again later"
    Been doing this for a couple of days.
    Any assistance will be appreciated. I tried to put MAC filtering off. I tried forcing MAC address on router. I tried changing channels to 10 and 11. All to no avail.
  • Anyone got any update to this? I managed to find the network on my watch, type the password in and it says connected. When I then go to sync or click on wifi on the watch it comes up with Network Error Try Again Later. I have checked and my router does not block any MAC addresses, however I added incase. Tried switching channels also no luck. Any ideas?

    I had the same problem too when I upgrade to 7.60 and 7.93beta.

  • I have the same problem, I have done some tests and I have reached a conclusion.

    Devices used: Microsoft Lumia 950XL, HP PC with Windows 10 Pro, Microsoft Surface Pro and an Android Nokia 5 Smatphone borrowed.

    The procedure for the tests has always been the same:
    - Remove Fenix 5X from the device.

    - Remove Fenix 5X from Garmin Express.

    - Reconnect to Garmin Express and before connecting to any device: WIFI works perfectly.

    - When linked to the device by bluetooth, only works with Android Nokia 5.

    The problem is with the UWP Windows 10, it has not been updated since October of last year and Garmin has changed something on servers.

    Now we have a problem:
    Fuchsia OS will soon replace Android, as always NO current smartphone will update.
    I do not want to spend more than 1000 € on IPhone X to have the same technology that I already have with my 3 years old 950XL, but Garmin seems to have abandoned the UWP Windows 10, despite the fact that every day there are more Surface devices style, or the works of Windows 10 on ARM.

    Do we have to spend extra money on a transition device, or would Garmin update the WMP for Windows 10? I think the answer is on the official specifications of Fenix 5X: "Smartphone compatibility: iPhone®, Android Tm, Windows®". Today the specifications not been changed, but gradually my Fenix 5X is losing functions, such as disconnections, calendar, weather forecast, notifications...

    Question:
    All the users with problems, are you using Windows 10 devices?
