My lovely new Fenix 5 Black Sapphire, Scratched already!

https://flic.kr/p/Sb32qq

All I did was just catch it gently on living room wall in out house!!! Hardly touched it and now it has a silver scratch that stands out like a sore thumb against the black.

Gutted!

Wish I had got the silver now.
  • Now it has character, as they say... I have the gray, non-sapphire and banged and scraped with my full weight into a chain-link fence while playing tennis a few days ago. Suffered a minor scratch (more of hairline indentation) on the bezel but can only be seen in very specific lighting conditions. In fact, I tried to photograph but just can't get a pic with the right angle/lighting to have it be visible. I was sure with the force I hit the fence and sound of it, the F5 would have come away with large gouges on it and a scratches on the glass.

Based on this incident, I would say the gray on the F5 is more durable than what I experienced with my F3 which did show a lot of wear around the edges and a few mishap scares. Personally, I don't worry about beating up the bezel but was only concerned the glass would be scratched.
  • Oh no ! Doubt the gray would have done much better, the silver maybe? Since it's black you could try applying some type of marker pen to see if it helps...

I considered trying this (Birchwood Casey Super Gloss Black touch-up pen): https://www.birchwoodcasey.com/Cleaning-and-Maintenance/Cleaning-Maintenance/Super-BlackTm-Touch-Up-Pen.aspx

You're not the only one. Two minuscule scratches, one just past 11 o'clock position on inside edge of bezel and one at 6:30 on outside of bezel. And I thought I've been taking good care. These are really too small to notice just glancing at it but sure after time it will definitely be well worn.
