Hello Fenix 5X users,

Thank you to everyone for the tremendous response that we've already received this early in the Fenix 5X launch. We are very excited to finally see the Fenix 5X in the market for all to enjoy!

We appreciate you, our customers, who pursue similar passions to our own, and share those stories with us. Not only do you share your stories, but your feedback makes an already fantastic product even better. This we appreciate more than we can express.

Because of our wonderful community we are officially kicking off the Fenix 5X beta program today. We have this program so that we can offer added features, improvements, and bug fixes to our most loyal fans as soon as possible. Please read the 'notes' and 'installation instructions' in the 'Updates and Downloads' page found in the links below for your specific device.

This beta is a public release candidate and our hope is that next week we can make this build public. We look forward to your feedback

In this beta software there is a GPS update. Before use, we recommend that all users allow their device an opportunity 'soak' and acquire GPS at least 15 minutes, with an open view of the sky, to rebuild ephemeris data

Please send all bug reports to [email][email protected][/email].

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience. :)

  • Track Crash fixed?

Is the bug fixed that that freezes the watch when sending a track to the watch from gc?

That was quicker than expected, cool :). I've installed it. I'll see if I can replicate the "resume later" bug--there's no mention of it in the fix list.
  • First hike with my F5X on 2.72- everything was extremely stable- I am very happy with the watch's performance, elevation tracking accuracy and mapping features.

I was the one leading the group during a big part of the hike as the footpath was on the map and I found it extremely easy to follow it and guide everyone else. I also used my Stryd power meter.

I haven't been able to examine the track accuracy as I'm currently on the train back to London- do let me know what you think!

  • Transfer of courses/tracks whether it be from Strava, GC or BaseCamp that caused crashes is now fixed in this beta. It is referenced in the change log notes regarding special characters. The 'resume later' issue is resolved as well. Of course if someone finds otherwise, please report as instructed including all relevant data. As an FYI...if you experience a crash, the ERR_LOG file is now found in the GARMIN\DEBUG directory. This file can be very important to resolving the issue quickly.

Again, we want to thank our wonderful community for your excitement and willingness to make a fantastic product even better.

    Enjoy the beta, cheers!
  • 5k, this morning on the new code; track appears to be a bit better than before. Not as good as it appeared to be on the map on the watch-face while sitting still on the road outside my house, but not bad.

    Total distance was spot-on.
  • Hi,

When I did my GPS Soak I discarded the actvity and the F5X went back to Run activity data field instead of the watch face. Is it meant to do this?

Ran a 12 mile route with 2.72 that I had run before with the prior stable release. Let the watch soak for 20min in open sky prior to start. Track seems cleaner, corners hit spot on and much better a knowing which side of trail/road I was on, had a few points where it would drift 3-5 meters off of my path for a stretch, but these generally snap back at the next corner. Less skittish than prior run on the route. Also, ran with my Suunto A3P on my other arm and they were within .02 of each other after 12 miles. Two watches can agree and both be off, but that A3P has been rock solid accurate, so that was nice to see.

Happy so far, but still need to hit a mountain trail route to test in canyons and switchbacks at lower speeds. Kudos to the dev team!

Yes, this is how it should now function. It is a change from previous models of the Fenix.
  • I still have a couple of issues, even with the beta code:

First, the watch continues to revert back to default settings for many things - assuming this happens after every sync like reported before:
    • Sound goes back to audible when in activity, even after turning audible alerts off and to vibrate only
    • Phone alerts go back to all notifications during activity, even after I change the setting to calls only
    • When doing a workout (at least for an indoor bike), the watch steps through the workout and even says "workout ended" at the end of the workout, but the clock keeps going. You have to remember to manually stop the workout

Otherwise, I am willing to deal with these issues as I believe the rest of the watch is great. I am getting used to changing these settings each time, knowing that this will eventually get fixed.
  • I am not seeing an issue with settings reverting to their defaults on this beta firmware.
